Don’t overreact. Don't jump off the bridge etc etc. yet, he skipped the postgame and based on Carino s reporting was very testy in the presser. Not the best look.
When your path to success requires 40 minutes of intense defense eventually it wears on the players. And now that we are playing every 3-4 days with travel inbetween for the rest of the season the defense will become less and less ferocious as the players get more and more fatigued.

There’s probably a pretty simple chart that could be drawn up showing the correlation.

I think there is some validity to your point but I also think our success is based on how the game is officiated. Today was just a perfect storm with 3 over zealous refs calling 46 total fouls & making the game difficult to watch. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence based on Hurley’s comments earlier in the week.

He should be testy as the team didn't play well.

The team did not play well. They're in a slump. It happens.

**Good Lord, 33 of Butler's 77 points came from the FT line. That's nuts. 43%.
**Payne was a turnover machine (5 in 14 mins). Clark was a fouling machine (5 in 25).
**Parker and Simpkins were 1/14 shooting.
**SHU only turned Butler over 8 times, 11.9%. It was a -5 margin. That's not how we play. We're 7th in the **country in defensive turnover % at 22., for context.

we’ve become an easy scout at this point; play a Zone Defense against us, force us to make outside shots which we’ve been absolutely brutal at since Big East play started. Team does not have any effective zone offense.

Couple this with the fact that the ref crew was clearly out to send a message on the way we play defense (which let’s be honest does lead to a lot of foul calls depending on the tolerance of the referees), and we can’t D up the way Shaheen wants to.

I’m recalibrating my expectations on the season. Winning 10 games the way we’ve been playing is going to be a decent accomplishment. That will not be good enough to get a NCAA bid given the mediocrity of the conference this year.

I thought the refs were not the issue at all. In fact I thought they were very fair and balanced in calling what was there to call. Yes they missed a few for both teams but the SHU players were clearly fouling a lot.

The loss was due to poor offense and turnovers. Just look at the stats. The best point guard on the court was the freshman for Butler.

The problem going forward is that the great press that was so successful early on has now been seen many times and the other teams are well prepared for it. So the offense that was driven by turnovers off the press is no more. That leaves a half court offense that is not able to make shots. Not just 3 pointers. Not sure the future games will have better results.

They ran one good set against the zone and thats when they got the ball to the middle foul line(the way to attack a zone)
Resulted in Parker dumping for an easy Rivera jam
Only time on saw them get it to the middle

Despite Butler starting 1-5 in the BE and coming in a 4-game skid their non-conference performance and overall metrics were decent to avoid it being a torpedo game.

Seton Hall is #47 in the NET. Butler is #52. Creighton #55.

Want to bounce back? Get the road win at MSG and make a freaking statement. St. John’s is rolling, #23 in the NET and 6-1 in BE.

That would be great. Can’t say I see us doing it. But who knows.

I've been in many of these post games. No one takes losses worst than Holloway. But he's being paid to deal with the media and they do treat him with respect, yet he doesn't doesn't always respond in kind. It's gotten to the point that the media throws him mostly softball questions. But even then after a loss he doesn't handle them well. He does the same with Dave Popkin.

The media has a job to do and he doesn't make it easy on them. Last year it got to the point I stopped asking questions knowing what the responses would be. Fortunately I'm not a reporter who depends on that kind of give and take for a living. And in truth it was one of the reasons I decided to pack it in here.

And yes I know I'm still doing a lot on the site but it's not by choice. With JD having some issues I feel it necessary to keep out readers informed.

I look forward to the day when I am just a fan of the site like so many of you are.

AJ Looked terrified of sha in the postgame when sha said dont answer that question about the refs. Sha was right to say that to AJ, but AJ looked like an abused puppy
His intensity at times helps the team, especially when things are going well.

But he has the opposite effect when they are not and you can clearly see the intimidation. Intimidation that does not help when players are having issues on the court.

They asked sha legit questions. Jerry is our biggest cheerleader. No need to be nasty. Dude your team cant shoot for shi*t. Answer why or make adjustments. Shaheen doesnt make adjustments well either.
Willard was the same. Pay me lots. Ask me no questions.

Yeah, he really has to start to learn how to handle post game interviews with some......polish? I listened to the last one and he just didn't show Jerry (or the others) the respect they deserve.

We are not Duke or Carolina...not that they should have a pass on respect, so we need all of the coverage, and hopefully positive, that we can find. He is in no way cultivating those relationships.

And....he should be. Again, as a smaller, less funded program, we need all the help we can get.
