I swear, I think this guy is some made up player that someone created on NCAA09 to get my hopes up.

6'5, 243 with a 4.43 forty? Come on. If Torbush/Turner can't make something out of this freak, they need to be slapped. Does anyone (besides Backer, because I am sure that he will say that he is the next Julius Peppers) have a first hand account from spring ball of what McCardell looks like on the field? I didn't pay too much attention to him in the Spring Game. With that much speed you would thing that at least some of the time he would overcome whatever technical deficiencies he might have.

It never seemed during the spring that he was threatening for a starting role, despite being basically the same size as Ferguson and seemingly way more athletic. Somebody that watched practice weigh in on this please.

I had a coach tell me that he's pretty raw. Said he has the speed off the edge, but needs to learn to play under control.
I took that to mean he overruns a lot of plays and doesn't change direction very well.

He looked good at times and at times looked lost. He only played two years of football in High School and is growing into his frame and learning how to play football at the highest level all at the same time. I wouldn't expect too much from him this year. He will play but he is not ready to play a lot. These guys need time to develop no matter how physically gifted they are. The problem is that idiots on message boards will start to type about how big of a bust he is by the end of the year. He can be good one day but needs time.

put him in on downs where he can use the skills he has - speed pash rush. if he really has that speed, he could be a huge factor in third down passing situations. we haven't had speed off the edge in a while.</p>

You guys are pretty dead on with McCardell.

He has good speed, but has a lot to learn. Coach Torbush referred to him as a "young pup" that has a lot of potential. He needs to continue to work in the weightroom (as he has been) and keep learning how to play at a high level. He is a project, but a project that has the tools to work with.

I agree with the comment made above .... he needs to play under control a little more.

All this being said, I think he can be a good player at some point.
