Shapen is probable….

We run the RPO so much in this offense, that's not true. They're running the same stuff, one is just a better athlete and one is more accurate on short passes. Shapen is Will but with a better arm. Same fragile statue of a QB who misses too many deep balls but his completion percentage is high.
I don't think they are running the same offense, but regardless, I agree that we shouldn't be running the RPO or multiple called QB draws with Shapen. He's playing hurt and I don't think he is as mobile as maybe he once was, or can be at 100%.

But if he’s playing he’s no longer the backup. Are we still happy or do we start bitching about whomever was initially third but moved up to backup and by rights becomes the best player on our team?
Two things you can count on from SPS when football starts. The RundaBawl crowd and the BestQBondaBench crowd. Never fails and usually starts with the 2nd game of the season.

I'm all for opening up the offense. But KT needs game reps. And his legs are a difference maker when the OL breaks down. It's really not that close.

And therein lies the rub
Here is the issue. While I admire his toughness and appreciate his efforts, Shapen gives us zero upside in the run game. He cannot elude pressure and defenses can virtually ignore the QB on the zone read. He is a better passer than Taylor but not that much better. It is also hard to pass the football when you are flat on your back. Kamario certainly has much to learn but from what I have seen on the field he gives us the best chance at QB.

I think Shapen is a significantly better passer. That's actually proven to be true when KT has been asked to throw the ball. But everything else you say here is 100% why KT should be playing. Passing ability is less important when the OL can't protect. We need a playmaker back there, not a statue.

It’s obvious our first possessions are scripted. We’ve scored on 7 of our 10 opening drives this year, so I like the idea of starting Shapen with a quick hook.

Or it could be that We just tire out very quickly. If We are waiting for Us to have a really good o-line with quality backups, I just don’t think it is ever going to happen. We need a o-line that are at least tiring for the other team’s defense and a beast of a running back.

doesn't Shapen have the most pass completions over 40 yards in Division 1? And with the toughest schedule in division 1 .....think what he would have if he played the Ole Miss schedule
