Yeah, actually it does. Not all wins are created equal. Those wins say more about the state of those teams than the state of ours. Much more impressive to beat a team that isn't having it's worst season in memory. When we do that, we'll have seen real progress.
Florida was worse the following season. But let's not cloud this argument with factual information like Coach is doing. Some of you essentially want the positives without first erasing the negatives for us.
Fact: We last won in the Swamp in 1965. We lost 16 in a row to Florida there.
Of those losses: 7-5 Florida team in 1988 17-0, 6-6 Florida team in 1987 38-3, 4-7 Florida team in 1978 34-0, 5-5-1 Florida team in 1972 28-13. Good thing we'd always managed to beat them when they were down though -- surely we should expect it and give a damn when it happens**
Fact: We last beat Georgia in 1974. We lost 9 in a row to them.
Of those losses: 6-6 Georgia team in 1989 23-6 and 5-6 Georgia team in 1996 38-19. Good thing we always take advantage of that one too though**
Fact: Out of our 5 major "negative" SEC streaks, Mullen has erased 3 of them. What remains? Beat LSU and win in the state of Arkansas.
Some of the delusion of "real progress" on here is ridiculous. Really. A bunch of you follow incessant circular football logic and/or constantly move the goalposts. That's a pretty large piece of the problem with our fanbase and also why the program tends to never truly moves forward. Basically, half the people in this thread are craving the days of Jackie. They want the "signature wins". Everyone conveniently forget about ALL the terrible signature losses that came with those wins. Do I need to run through them again?
It is not ridiculous to want us to upset a team at some point here. It's ridiculous to judge where we are as a program based on that criteria though... Wins are wins. We've gone our entire history as a program without them. Now everyone is getting discouraged by wanting to go too far too fast.
