Besides how many classifications and playoff format I'd like to know who's idea it was to besides just using ADM to make ADM 50% , 3 year average Well Fargo cup points 25% and 3 year of their ISP 25% ,from articles I read last year I assume that was all NCHSAA because several coaches were complaining that their school with it's size shouldn't be moving up , it's why you've got 1A schools bigger then some 2A schools I know one situation like that were the 1A has 57 more student then the 2A and it's not necessarily that the 1A school that belongs in 2A but maybe that the 2A school should be in 1A.I sat in meetings where the nchsaa wanted to do away with subdivided playoffs but the schools, ie coaches, were vehemently against it.
The admin went to the 1A schools with a plan to reduce their playoffs to four rounds. 1A would have their “own” day with more focus which was/is a big complaint of those particioants. It would also allow the winter sport athletes to move on a bit sooner. The 1A schools felt they were being discriminated against and should not be treated differently. This from the schools that started subdivided playoffs and the pods system.
The nchsaa wanted to go to a separate football alignment which would result in six football divisions. Schools did not like it which I found ridiculous.
Subdivided playoffs and 256 teams have never been an nchsaa platform but one the schools have heavily favored and fought for.
