I think if there is ever a good time to get this off your shoulders then that time is now! I disagree with what his brother is doing, but he may have opened a door for Mark. Rome had a good take on this situation this morning, and I totally agreed with him which is not normal for me. His HOF status for me is still up in the air.

if he gets in, people will bemoan the fact that he "cheated".
if he doesnt, people will raise hell that he was the best player in an unregulated sport.
by staying out of it, he may be doing what is best for him and not maybe what is best for him as seen by everyone else (us).

i enjoyed he and slammin sammy's "chase".

he and barry are almost one and the same if you ask me.
both small (read: slim), speedy type players in 1986ish, both bulging forearmed, aqua-nog, uniform bursters in 1998 forward.

America is a forgiving nation. Though he would still have his detractors, it's amazing how far "I'm sorry" will go in this country. A good chunk of the public would favor the move and forgive him.

bashing the guy.
its just that if he gets in, people will ***** & if hes doesnt, people will *****.

he hasnt had to do anything the last few years, and folks still talk about him.
back when they were the bash bros, he hit a pile of homers, but not 70+ and he wasnt hitting lasers that were still going up as they left the stadium.
i dont think he's "innocent", but you guys are right: an "I'm sorry" would go a long way. (see: andy pettite)

i say he keeps his mouth shut, it sucks to lie for forever and then all of a sudden be like yay i did it. and if he did would it bring up perjury from when he was in supreme court? even though all he did was say "i'm not here to talk about the past?"

However, you are correct about the forgiving nation. we praised jackie joyner kersey after she admitted her use of them in the olympics. Hell we acted liek she was a saint when she kept her damn mouth shut for 4 years and finally got busted. She wouldve never said anything otherwise but we praised her maturity.

Mark McGwire was one of my favorites during his time. He and Sammy single (or double) handedly saved the modern era of baseball by bringing people back to the stands. I went to 2 games myself and I'm minimum 4 hours from an mlb team.

He deserves the Hall and he doesnt deserve this (he quit before this **** became an issue and does not deserve to be ridiculed for things that werent tested for during his reign.)

btw 17 Barry Bonds

therefore they can't do anything to him if he confesses now. Having said that, McGwire will never make the HOF no matter what happens. He killed his chances a long time ago. Give it up. And Barry Bonds will never do a day behind bars.

The Veteran's Committee will put him in. It will be another 12-13 years, but they'll let him in.

I think what Mark McGwire should do is find Jose Canseco and kick his ***.

This whole thing was propagated (Hey! USCreb word) by Canseco's jealousy. The truth of the matter is this- and the media NEVER talks about this- Canseco had a chance to be a HOF, he had the tools, but unlike guys like McGwire, he never worked on his defense, he never worked on becoming a better hitter, and all he ever did was go up there and try to hit home runs. Essentially, he went from having to a chance to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game to being the next Dave Kingman. Contrast that with McGwire, who was willing to work hard on all facets of the game, and improved as his career went on. He actually became good enough on defense to win a Gold Glove. One reason why McGwire was such a great power hitter was in part because he was a great hitter- near .300 in his prime, and perfected his swing to the point where he could hit "good" pitches 500 feet. It was remarkable. When McGwire was with the Cardinals he was constantly working out and lifting weights, and he was always working on his game.

I don't doubt that McGwire took steroids, I'm not saying it's right, but I would like for one of these media people to call out Canseco just once and ask him if he was jealous of Mark McGwire. I'd like to hear that response as much as McGwire admit to using steroids.

So you don't think the whole steroid thing would have come to light if Conseco hadn't been jealous? WOW. If there's a Genes Page for Cardinal fans, you should find it.

Mark McGwire = arrogant douchebag.

"I...I...I'm not here to talk about the past.."

What a sack of ****.

Canseco had much more natural ability than McGwire. He wasted his. McGwire decided to cheat to gain an advantage.

EXACT right word.

prop?a?gate
-verb (used with object)
1. to cause (an organism) to multiply by any process of natural reproduction from the parent stock.
2. to reproduce (itself, its kind, etc.), as an organism does.

like it did without Canseco's book? Because I don't recall ANYBODY talking about investigating MLB for steroids until his book came out.

I saw an interveiw where Canseco has said that he regrets putting the book out because he didn't know that it would hurt so many of his friends. Namely Roger Clemens.

If you have ever read the book, it's pretty obvious that it's his intent to slam McGwire. He does talk about other players, but it's mainly targeted towards Big Mac. And I wonder why.

Way to put words into my mouth. Would you have called me out if McGwire hadn't played for the Cardinals? All I'm saying is that Canseco is a piece of ****. Not that the steroids wouldn't have come out any way. Throwing people under the bus because you were lazy and jealous is ******, I don't care who you play for.

which was why I was referrencing him, and you really think that they would call a congressional hearing because someone's head is big? That would be a first.

I don't even think Bonds was at the first Congressional hearing. I think it was just McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro (another Canseco teammate), and Curt Schilling as well as Bud Selig.

no he shouldn't say a word and yes he should be in HOF. look, EVERYBODY was taking roids when he was taking them and he still was one of the best hitters in the game. back then the level playing field was every player shooting up right before they stepped in the batters box. who cares? its not like you hear of the guy that didn't take roids standing up and being pissed that he got cut. i agree with the new regulation of drugs in baseball and it needs to be cleaned up, but get over the fact that he juiced.
