Should NCAA/NFL not be allowed to hire coaches until after posteason is over?

Stole this topic from a radio show I heard over the weekend. The argument was that you water down the quality of the games in which lots of the coaching staff is looking/interviewing/taken other jobs.

In NFL terms the point was that if a team has an OC/DC interviewing for a head job are you really getting that coaches' best effort for the upcoming game?

I'd tend to agree and since there isn't recruiting in the NFL, putting a hiring freeze on during the month of playoffs wouldn't be a huge deal. Teams could still make management/scouting dept. moves.

For NCAA the example was Northern Illiniois - the fact that they will probably never get to another BCS bowl and they have to do in without the coach that took them there.

That's a harder proposition to me b/c of the impact of recruiting. It would be nice to save the carousel for after the national championship game but not sure it's realistic.

NFL - I don't care. NCAA - absolutely not.

Difference bt the two being recruiting. If changes need to be made at the college level, they need to be made ASAP so the new guys can get on with the recruiting part of their job. It would essentially be a probation like impact on a NCAA team that needed to make a change, but couldn't until after the post-season. The existing staff that knew they were getting canned would be lazy recruiters and the new staff wouldn't have enough time to salvage it.

In the NFL, you have a front-office to make the personnel decisions for the coaching staff. It would be more realistic to make coaching staff changes after the season is over in that league. That said, I don't really care when they do the hiring.

not only do you have a front office to handle personnel, but free agency and player roster bonuses and all that don't kick in until after the playoffs.

as for CFB, maybe if they froze recruiting between the end of the regular season and like a week after the bowl season, then it would work, but even then, it would be hard to come in and schedule visits and all that.
