Should Paul have been benched/moved off ball comepletely?

Would we have had a better chance tonight if Simpson started and/or was primary initiator?

It doesn’t matter. If he doesn’t play well against Michigan, we are done. Simpson can’t be asked to take over games. He’s not ready.

Simpson's worst game of late was against Michigan which isn't great for the B1G tournament

Whoever is playing better needs more minutes. There is no time for feelings

Going with the same old game plan on Wednesday will not have a high probability of success. Derek needs to start in place of Paul. S&S need to drive and score or good lobs to Cliff or kick it out. Team needs to watch replays of how NW got the ball to Nicholson to dunk. And please tell Cliff to stay home on defense and not chase point guards. Usually results in a foul or opposing center dunks or offensive rebounds. I haven’t seen one positive all year of Cliff being 25 feet from the basket.

False. Paul’s ‘ole perimeter defense meant that Cliff had to leave his man to contest the shots around the hoop. Nicholson dunked the rebounds. cliff had to rotate

Reason # 1,2,3 we lost was because Paul couldn’t defend Barnhizer. Same exact thing when Griesel on Nebraska blew past him every time and the defense couldn’t recover.

Heck, they should have let Reiber defend Barnhizer. It could only have been better.

Reason # 2 Paul’s turnovers and junk offense in the lane.

I’ve criticized Caleb often but he played his *** off today. It was clear Pike played Paul more than he deserved this year. Loyalty killed the season.

in fairness, Simpson scored a few baskets in garbage time when NU was only contesting three pointers. Simpson had the two ugliest shots of the game in the first half.

Simpson is shorting 36% on the year from the field. Take a step back and think about that for a second. He helped us against Indy and PSU and players like PM have helped us in a multitude of games—team sport!

Yup aware of his FG % also but all this talk about Simpson needs to pump the brakes.
While we can visually see the talent to take it to the basket and create something especially compared to PM right now there are still struggles with him out there.
Would I like to see him more? YES! I want him starting over Hyatt actually AND I want him handling the ball From the top of the key…that’s his strength: kid plays loose(sometimes too much)
Hyatt is your 6th man and needs to be his role.

disagree. hyatt is the second best offensive player and a better defender than Paul. If Simpson is the PG, Paul the backup assuming he comes back. Hyatt starts next year with Mag, Cliff, Hyatt (gavin his backup) and i hope Simpson.

They have been lessening Paul's load by giving Caleb, Spencer, and Simpson more reps setting up the offense but I don't think it will solve anything unless a magic offensive post player falls out of the skies to take the pressure off Cliff and open up the perimeter. We will continue to struggle on offense no matter who sets it up.

All of Paul’s non-FT points were in garbage time. I think Simpson had 8 prior to what I’d consider garbage time, maybe 10.

Simpson also airballed a wide wide open 3

He misses a lot and has some bad plays but at least he's a freshman so it's excusable

He is the one who has the speed and quickness to get to the basket though which no one else can really do

Like what Simpson has been doing, but his handle is suspect in Michigan killed him with their swarming Defense. They are a bad matchup for him to play a significant point minutes.

Just play man against Michigan. Cliff should not be at the the 3 point line while Dickinson is catching alley oops.

Paul’s shoulder may be bothering him all year and I know his defense hasn’t always been good but right now it’s good awful. The one play last night for example he has a half *** closeout and his man blew right by him for a layup

The problem is lack of talent and running a offense not suited for the roster. The team is composed of stationary shooters that need open shots to be effective. The half court offense has failed because of the lack of passing, dribbling and player movement to create open shots. What fans see is chaos on the court resulting in long scoring droughts, unforced turnovers and shot clock violations.

McConnell seemed to allude to some internal struggles. Wonder if Paul has something going on beyond physical injury specifically or if it’s a team wide issue.

If Paul is hurting then pike should know this and know he’s not gonna play better and giving him starter minutes is not gonna help. Simpson has his deficiencies but Paul is contributing nothing and in fact making it worse almost every time he touches the ball.
