Should we take the opportunity to talk about a baseball series with Rice? *

Seems like a clear "no" to me. If we happen to lose, why give the

committee a chance to give Rice a national seed over us? We are always gonna have a stronger strength of schedule than them. That's my 30 second analysis anyway.

That doesn't stop them from getting the benefit of the doubt more often than not...

Now that we're back to where we need to be as a team, I think we can start scheduling a bunch of name teams. Seems we are already doing that going forward -- with a couple of good early-season tourneys scheduled.

The way people seem to overemphasize the RPI, I'd just as soon play as tough a schedule as possible in basketball and baseball. Not as sure with baseball, but with basketball, once you're a tourney quality team, the only reason you have to worry about loading up your schedule is you want some games that you can work in younger players and you don't want your team to get ground down. If we were a top ten basketball team, we wouldn't be able to get enough hard games for me to be worried about the team getting worn down, especially considering the strength of the SEC in basketball.

The SEC schedule is brutal in baseball, so I wouldn't want to get rid of all of the easier OOC series, but I'd want to sprinkle in plenty of tests early on.

I wouldn't mind seeing us play them. They would be a noteworthy non-conference game to say the least. I agree that you should always throw a few cupcakes on the schedule, but Rice would be a good solid mid or early season test for the team.
