In Mississippi, can the districts not set their own cell phone policies?

My kid's district went to no phones, earbuds, or smartwatches during instructional time. Lunch and passing periods are OK to use em at the HS level.
A neighboring district has a policy of no phones at all between the first and last bells. No phones at any point.

Anyways, the state law really just states each school district must have a cell phone policy. Then the districts implement what works best for their communities and buildings.

In the first place
Alabama banned cellphones this year. I have both a HS and MS boy with a cellphone

it’s a mixed bag for me and my family

The intent of the ban is good, more focus on school, less bullying (at least during school hours), less disruption in class, etc

Previously, phones were pouched by teachers and given back to students with 5min left in class. That system seemed to work pretty well. It allowed me to check in at their lunch and also work out any after school logistics

If you’re “checking in” on your kids at lunch at school, you’re a helicopter parent. Quit.
