Newbie and first time poster. Long time supporter and in attendance at every home game for last 5 years but seriously considering skipping this weeks game. Not that I want to because I love it but at the same time sick of the lack of progress. I drank the Kool-Aid when Mullen took the job and knew that good times were coming. Sat in the stands and watched us give away games to Houston and LSU that first year and still smiled because it was evident that Dan would soon be taking us to the promised land. Mistakes were made but then again any rookie coach would make the same mistakes. Reveled in the bliss of the Egg Bowl and knew that we were on our way. Enjoyed the next year and even though still not on par with the big guys it was evident we were gaining. Went to Oxford and watched the domination of Superman Relf knew that even with a 2 star QB Mullen could make the system go. Made the trip to the Gator Bowl and saw exactly what we dreamed of in the offense. I knew we were on our way.
Third year still not bad by our standards but still seeing those things that make you grit your teeth. Fourth year got exposed by the stiff competition and the terrible back half of the season despite a so-called record setting offense. And then the debacle in the Gator Bowl when Mullen allowed Tyler to self-destruct and left him in to drown.
Knew coming into this year that given the missing pieces and the schedule 6-6 would be a pretty decent year. Figured OSU would be a L. What got me was the statement from Les that they got conservative after getting the first field goal. What? You're telling me you thought you were going to win 3-0. I'd a never admitted it if I were him. Then you burn the redshirt of everybody but the water boy in the Alcorn game only to give Shumpert one carry against Auburn. Really? What about that makes any sense? Now that you've burned his red shirt give him the danged ball 7-10 times per game. Game management was ridiculous.
We're 5 years into a rebuilding program and I was more pleased in year one than I am now. Where's the evidence that these coaches are learning and getting it done? My outlook is not too optimistic other than a pretty decent recruiting class is being put together. If somehow Mullen can hold it together then maybe things will be better next year. The schedule is softer but still no confidence that the program is getting better.
Just my two cents. Like Dennis Miller this is just my opinion and I could be wrong. Let's hope so.
