There’s a lot to like and be excited about with Simpson.

He’s got speed/quickness you can’t teach, is explosive, hit frees throws at an 80% + clip, has quick hands on defense and oozes with calm confidence.

One thing I’ve noticed all season that seems to really set him apart is not only his ability to drive right….but also his ability to drive strong to the left side of the basket from the perimeter, despite being right handed. He’s been blowing by guys all year from the left side of the court.

Gonna be fun to see what he can do with another 1-2 years of S&C under his belt.

People are quick to point out the geo comparisons, but I see more Jacob Young in him. Both the good and the bad. Rare combo of elite athleticism and confidence (with a slightly broken jumper).

100% true. Now he needs to work on his strength, get much better defensively (e.g., stop gambling) and keep working on his 3 point shot.

I've thought that Simpson will eventually break out but thought it will come next year. When Simpson adds some pounds and gets coached up over 2 years under pikes coaching staff he's going to be the best point guard Rutgers has had in a long time. He quick, and has great touch. The thing we don't know yet is...is he a leader? I'm really hopeful that he could be great after tonight.

Young was incredibly athletic but also out of control a bit too much. While Simpson has not been asked to take a lead role (yet), he seems more suited to play within a system than Young. No doubt that Simpson is gifted athletically and I think next year he will develop a more dependable jump shot. Tremendous game tonight and love his calm demeanor.

There's a lot to like, but his game Thursday night vs Michigan was very shaky, but he kept competing.

This game and the Indiana game in December are the difference between a NIT season and making the NCAAs. It's not to say the rest of the season wouldn't have gone the same way, but we need to ride with the bumps and bruises along the way.

Derek was so under control tonight except for maybe 1 drive. We should be running High PNR with Cliff much more on our offense but when we have with Paul, his hesitancy to shoot or drive all the way to the basket or to turn the corner ( exception 2nd half MSU) . With Derek , he pulled up for 2-3 mid range as well as turned the corner and got all the way to the basket , nothing more important than the tying basket and 1 to get us the lead at 57-56. This has to be a huge part of our offense, once more teams start helping Cam and Oscar and Aundre should get even more open 3 point looks.
Now his defense has to get better. He has to try to get thru being screened harder and recover to the dribbler so Cliff can get back to the middle. He has gotten a little better but has to improve a lot more . Cam could not handle the Michigan guard PUP and he killed us. Not sure if Derek could have either but Wisconsin’s backup once Chucky Hepburn got hurt today , was the same size as Derek and did a great job on him today. NW with Boo Buie will run High PNR most of the day as well. Derek ‘s mission besides his offensive catalyst role is also to get the other team to go away from High PNR

Certainly sounded like one deflecting all praises to his big men for screening and his Teamates 👍

High PnR! It's so simple and it was so effective last year. I thought we might run it too much this year but we don't run it nearly enough

Get Cliff rolling to the basket. He's not a dominate low post player but he's a terror rolling to the rim. It opens up a shot or drive for whoever runs it with him bc Cliff's man can't leave him or it's a dunk
