There have been more basketball transfers than football transfers.
There have been more basketball transfers than football transfers.
But it sounded good!Except it's not true, football has had around 14 or more players transfer since Riley was hired. And that number doesn't include guys kicked off the team (Tolbert, etc) or not allowed back in school (Alexander).

One thing about all these transfers, the local media has turned on Miles big time.Last time I listen to Benning and Sharp
But Riley has lost more assistant coaches. The guy is hired with "carte blanche" to build a staff and bring in anybody he wanted. He's now already had to replace what, six coaches? I'm far more concerned about that than the basketball situation.
I don't get the Davis hate. 1) He's landed guys like Tre Bryant, Devine Ozigbo, and Jordan Stephenson (Yeah he was a major bust but he was still a highly touted recruit). 2) The running backs he inherited have improved a lot since he got here. Newby was terrible before Davis got here, and if he had stayed healthy would have probably been a 1000 yard rusher for us last year. The important thing for me is that he made changes and we haven't had that kind of mentality for a long time in the football department. While I follow your point, look at our defensive staff. It's absolutely loaded. And even though Davis and Cav have been sub-par lately, we still have Keith Williams, Tavita Thompson and Danny Langsdorf under Riley's offensive vision.
I've seen different arguments on this one... He brought in people he knew could help him change the culture, even if it was only for a year or two, knowing he would need to eventually make changes. Or, he thought he could win with the same coaches but has realized he needed to upgrade and hasn't been afraid to do that. But Riley has lost more assistant coaches. Hard to argue this... I think it more likely that he brought in guys he was familiar with, hoping he could get it done with those guys. He saw the writing on the wall and realized it wasn't going to work and went in a different direction. This makes much more sense to me than bringing in guys for a year or two, knowing he was going to have to fire them eventually."I'm going to bring in guys I know that I'm eventually going to fire."
This theory is one of the strangest ones I have ever seen on this board.
I was going to like your post until you said we had 0 talent when he got here. Newby was a pretty highly recruited and certainly talented guy. Most of the rest of your view I agree with. People want names and stars but fail to recognize how good some of the guys we have really are. IF our line was more talented these past few years, our backs would look a tone better. I love what Oz brings to the table and Bryant I think will end up playing in the NFL if he stays healthy.I don't get the Davis hate. 1) He's landed guys like Tre Bryant, Devine Ozigbo, and Jordan Stephenson (Yeah he was a major bust but he was still a highly touted recruit). 2) The running backs he inherited have improved a lot since he got here. Other than Bray, Cav inherited the worst unit on the roster. We had 0 depth and 0 talent. Offensive line takes a long time to develop and when 60% of your starters are walk-ons in your first 2 seasons you're going to struggle. Regardless this year is a big year for Cav he needs to start to show something in terms of development or Riley will send him packing.
We had talented backs. Newby had talent he just needed to be coached up a bit, I heard awesome things about Taylor before his injuries and Wilbon continues to impress. My 0 talent comment was in regards to the offensive line.I was going to like your post until you said we had 0 talent when he got here. Newby was a pretty highly recruited and certainly talented guy. My mistake. I agree that we didn't have as much talent as we need for the O line.We had talented backs. I am trying to consider that Cav was allowed a lot of independence early. He tries to really bond with his players also, and it comes up in positive recruiting comments. Coach R tried to give his guys a chance on a bigger stage, our A D won't tolerate bottom ranked portions of our football team. ... So IMO coach Cav is getting the help he needs; HCMR is making pointed comments about the o- line in the press this Spring - the line is on the clock and the path will be results oriented. Cav is basically part of a committee. This is what played out on the defense and special teams. As an assistant you are not being paid to be a bottom ten % coach statistically. Looked at corporately, you are looking for managers who have been top ranked in results - and energize and recruit to an organization. GBRHonestly, I appreciate your defense of Davis. I've liked him as a man and as a coach. Just seeing snippets of showing Newby how to read a DB's weak shoulder and whatnot. He's a really smart coach and I wasn't trying to hate on him or throw him under the bus, I mistakenly group Davis and Cav together sometimes because they work coherently. Newby absolutely improved under Davis.
To your point about Cav, he does have his work cut out for him this season. I mentioned that the other day in a thread. I'm more worried about that than anything else. 15 guys on schollie on the OL is much better than what we had. Really hope the unit proves doubters wrong this season.

The only thing stranger I have seen on this site is someone pretending to be someone's wife as opposed to admitting they really are that someone.
