I've yet to see anyone explain the Unsportsmanlike Conduct / Excessive Celebration penalty on Malcolm Johnson after Dak's 50+ yard 17-U to the entire state of Louisiana. I recently finished the ESPN 3 replay and I'm still lost.

Do any of y'all have a clip or any insight into this phantom call?

The pass interference on Redmond was BS too. There was contact, yes, but not enough to warrant pass interference. On Bear's TD catch he was getting mugged and there was no call. Maybe the official was waiting to see if he came down with it and decided the call was unnecessary since he caught it.

Not only that, on Bear's first TD - the DB was draped all over him.

No call there, but Redmond gets one for far less.

The ball went right over the post and was not inside the plane. Even after it passed behind the post it never was inside the plane. There was a camera guy under the post but they never showed that angle. I have reviewed it over and I challenge the call on the field.

M. Johnson said some very negative things about corn dogs. The ref heard it, and he happened to be a fan of corn dogs, so flag it was....

The ball can pass over the upright. The rule is if any portion of the ball is outside the upright as it passes over the plane of the cross bar, then its no good. You can't really tell on TV at which point the ball crosses over the plane, but as the ball is coming down it is clear that none of it is outside the upright. I think that one was probably called correctly, but there is nothing definitive in the replay.

Funny how they only call this after a score.

what about the roughing the kicker that they didnt call?

this may have been discussed earlier, but I think it was on MSU's first punt, the lsu defender came in and took the legs out from under our punter while he was still in the air, but there was no call.

I hate stupid penalties as much as the next person...

But if MJ6 was penalized for a little trash talk after that TD, I think I can forgive him, as his swagger runneth over.

Nothing like a football team with a little attitude.

The Redmond call was bogus. After they showed the replay and I got done cursing, I told my wife that if you can't do what Redmond did on that play, then you just can't play defense anymore.

Now, if you want to see some pass interference, watch Seattle's defense on pretty much every play when they're at home. Believe me, I don't like Denver either, but the fact that the Seattle secondary didn't get a single flag in the 4th qtr yesterday was just hilarious. They were grabbing receivers 10-20 yards downfield on nearly every play and then absolutely mugging them when the ball was in the air. If you can do that, then it's no wonder that it's so hard to win there.

I hate when I see a ref do that crap though. Who knows if the call will get overturned or if the ball moves or whatever. On a blatant PI like that, the call needs to be made. Never will understand the mentality of this... "well, he caught it so I just won't call it."

This no call was actually correct. Devon ran three steps forward and to his right to punt a rugby style punt, and once he starts to run it takes away his protection as a punter. No roughing the punter in that situation because Devon is now being treated like a runner.

there has been arule change Coach

Punter A22 is 15 yards behind the neutral zone when he catches the long snap, sprints to his right at an angle toward the line of scrimmage, and runs outside the tackle box. He then stops and punts the ball, and is immediately hit by a diving B89. RULING: Legal play, no foul by B89. A22 loses his roughing or running into protection by carrying the ball outside the tackle box.

yeah, I know that rule, I'll have to watch the replay this evening, but I didn't think that he was outside the tackle box.

Did MJ take his helmet off? I was just watching my DVR of the game, and after Dak scores the TD you can see #6 running into the endzone, and he definitely unsnaps one side of his chin strap while looking at a couple of LSU players (can't tell if he is yapping at them because the view is from behind, but I imagine he was). Anyway, if he proceeded to take off his helmet, that is an automatic unsportsmanlike penalty. I couldn't tell if he took it off or not because the camera angle changes to just Dak....

That is the NFL rule. In NCAA or high school, if any portion of the ball passes over the upright, it is no good. The entire ball must be within the inside edges of the posts.

If that's true, then I agree the FG was no good. Yeah, its possible the camera angle was a little deceiving or something, but it never looks like the ball is completely on the inside of the post. Still, its hard to imagine a ref missing that call.

Rule on FG above an upright. When ball goes above the upright, the ball must travel within the innermost point of each crossbar and upright. for it to count. The line is like an OB line. Rule 8-4-1-b elaborates on how to treat FG attemepts when a ball goes over the upright: "The crossbar and uprights are treated as a line."
In other words, extend a line straight up from the innermost point of each crossbar and upright. The area between the line encompasses the space a ball must pass through for it to be considered good.

FG attempt that goes over upright can not be reviewed.

The ball must pass completely within the uprights. If any part of the ball is outside the inside plane of the upright it is no good. It looked no good on tv. I wasn't standing under the goal post though.
