His last article for the CL will be Friday. Love him or hate him, you have to tip your hat to him.

I think he's the perfect guy to run the MSHOF.

that he can't save and will join a dying institution that maybe he can help save. Pretty decent retirement gig if you can get it.

Manning involved Im sure he can say he was going to get a sweaty wristband donated to the Hall or something cheesy like that and they (Mannings) may even pay his way as much as he has felated them over the years. Rick is proof positive that a BJ can be given in writing (Mannings) and Bo "Lifestyle" Bounds is proof that a BJ can be given over the airwaves because he daily gives one or more to Saban, Petrino and Calipari.

I love his columns and will miss that he won't be writing them anymore. I've said this before here but I once gave him an idea a few years ago for a column he did that was later recognized by the Louisiana-Mississippi newspaper group, association, whatever it's called when he got an award from them.

And he is the perfect guy to be at the MSHOF.

but he'll leave a huge void. Not many writers of his experience and quality still care about small-town sports and stories. If he wanted to, he could write only about the major events in sports nationally and regionally, but instead he'll write about the quarterback at Mize or Ingomar, the women's basketball coach at some tiny school in Northeast Mississippi, or like today a local man who has been to the Masters 60 years in a row.

Much more respected than most of us knew. Who will write those columns that piss off just enough people, but don't alienate them either?

...because nobody else will be able to defend a failing coach as vociferously as Rick.
