Some liked him and some didn't but he was definitely unique.

Love him or hate him, he was unique to MSU sports. And like others have said, he was not bad at all when it came to hoops. I liked his football style. I hope the new guy keeps it as simple and to the point as him, just without the cracking voice of a teenager.

not so much in basketball. He obviously didn't have the typical PA announcer voice, but he had fun with it. I'll miss hearing his introduction before doing the starting lineups.

Love him or hate him on the PA mike, Hank Flick is a first class individual and a great teacher. I remember more from his classes than all the others I took at MSU combined.

I wonder what he'll do on Saturdays now. For 35 years it's been either announcing MSU sports or watching Mid South Wrestling on the Memphis TV station!

Thanks Hank!

It sure looks like it, but is the avatar Rudy hitting the game winner Halloween night? I was at that game. It was awesome.

Flick, no fan of his at DW. No problem at the Hump. Never met the guy & don't know him personally. vhdawg is right. His lack of ability to give somewhat updated scores during a time out was freakin' unbelievable.

He was DEFINETLY unique and to some degree will miss his voice during football because that is the only PA announcer I can remember for football and I have been going to games since about 1973.
on the other hand, I am looking forward to having someone with a PA announcer voice.....just hope we get one!

I hate to hear a PA announcer who thinks he is a play-by-play announcer. I am at the stadium. I don't need you to tell me that "_______ rushed to the right side". I think basketball is where Flick will be missed the most.

No thanks. He gives fat bastards a bad name, and would probably rather have an insect put in a box with him before he recognized MState as having an athletic program.

As others have said, great professor and a great guy. I learned a lot from his class.

I, for one, enjoyed him as the PA announcer for both football and basketball. I haven't been back to the Hump in a while, but I can still hear him saying:

"A good, good evening and welcome to the Humphrey Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi State University for an evening of baaaaasketball.... Mississippi State style!"

Bad move... Flick is much of a traditional figure at MSU as Jack Cristil or Jim Ellis. Like him or not, he's unique, and he IS Mississippi State. It's tradition, it's who I listened to at EVERY game all my life.

I am opening the door for bashing, but I have to share my dislike for Hank as a person.

When I was at State, Dr. Flick spoke at a one of my club meetings. As many of you know, he can not stand the city of Pearl. He started bashing Pearl and said "Pearl women drive 4-wheel drive trucks and chew tobacco, so don't stop beside them at a red light or they'll spit on you." I thought I would inform Hank that I was from Pearl, to which he replied "then I am talking about your Mama." It took everything I had to keep my cool, but I lost all respect for him that day.

Let the Pearl bashing begin.

because people from Pearl need all the help they can get. You might want to quietly signal some others there at the library with you to come assist you with some of the big words.

of Dr. Flick speaking at an engagement. Except mine ends with him being a nice guy and great speaker throughout the whole evening. And I've heard nothing but good things from people who took his classes. But we all agreed on one thing: could have used a few good Pearl jokes.

It is kind of wierd to have a Pearl guy correcting your spelling isn't it? Sarcasm or not, calling out someone's mom as a school representative in a school sponsored event was a little much for me.

I dont really know what youre talking about alex4dogs but Flick is probably the funniest teacher on states campus, if you lost respect for Flick I am sure it wont bother him one bit. But its ok buddy not everybody has a good sence of humor its probably not your fault...but once again you are from Pearl

sucks Donkey Balls and Pearl takes the money shot. He was dead on about the women in pearl. Fact is that fits most of Rankin county. The only one I can think of that would be worse is Smith County, the former home of the Tobacco Spitting World Championships in downtown Raleigh.

I'm tired of Flick too but come on. The whole Pearl thing was part of his gimmick/shtick. Let it go.

Cause everybody knows that if you're from Pearl, you are either trash or picking it up on the side of the highway.

My first wife was from Pearl and she is living proof that Hank Flick was probably right about your mother.

Awesome professor. Never really cared for him either way at football games, but at the Hump...He just brought something unique and special. "A good, good evening and welcome to Humphery Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi State University for an evening of BASKETBALL! Mississippi State Style! ... It's something defining that I'll always associate with MSU athletics.

than any other class I took at MSU. I still use nuggets of wisdom from his class to this day. He was Parlimentarian of the SA Senate when I served on it and he rocked. Flick's deal was to give everyone a nickname. If Flick didn't have a nickname for you, you weren't somebody.

Some of his favorite lines:
(If someone were late for class)..........."I see the bus from Pearl just arrived."
(when speaking about doing something enthusiastically)...."I'd be all over that like a W girl at a buffet line"
And of course, he made more than a handful of comments about "upstairs at the Pike house". Even Pikes thought it was funny.

Wish FLICK DUDE could stay for basketball. I'm okay with someone else doing football, but PLEASE NINJA..keep Flick for HOOOOOOOOOOPS.

Remember one night during an exhibition game we were playing some team with tons of Europeans and he went through pronouncing some guy's name that was about 20 letters long.....after he stumbled through it he said over the microphone "You think this is Easy?" hilarious moment.
