DatA, I normally agree with most of your posts, but you must be listening to the game. That was clearly a pass ball no matter how they scored it. Slaughter did not get his glove down. Regardless, it's frustrating.
It was in the dirt and breaking. Could Slauter have caught it? Sure. And he's more than made himself a target this year, but on the college level that's not a play I suspect catchers make all the time. They aren't Pudge back there. And as I type, he blocks the ball in the 9th that keeps the runner at second. Win some, lose some.
I respect your opinion, so I rewound it and went frame by frame to be sure. Slauter had his left knee on the ground and the mitt in front of it. His right hand was between his legs but he didn't get his knees closed in order to block it with his body. I understand being upset about the play, but in my opinion (and apparently Joe Dier or whoever our official scorer is), that was a PB.
