Does anybody think it is outside the realm of possibilities that, with all the heat the SEC has taken the last few weeks concerning its officiating, Mike Slive and Urban Meyer set this whole thing up. Urban Meyer makes a very small complaint publicly about a Tebow late hit right after Slive makes it against the rules to criticize ref, then Slive gets to come down hard on him with a whopping $30,000 fine to show that Florida doesn't get preferential treatment from the SEC. SEC office evens goes so far as to say Meyer has to pay this fine out of his own pocket and it can't be paid by UF.

No way that fine ever gets paid. Complete smokescreen. At least that's my thoughts on the whole thing.

Agreed, it is chump change for Meyer. I just meant it sounds even more over the top for the SEC office to make that point, like they are just trying to get the media and other SEC schools off their back

BS...I don't care if he makes $4M a year. $30k still gets your attention quick. He's not going to lose any sleep about that money, but I'd be willing to say he won't be making the habit of publicly scrutinizing officials now. $30k to him is like 5 or 6 hundred bucks to me. That would shut me up quick.

**All that being said, I do like the black helicopter theory. I think it's plausible.

now he only has around 3.97 million to make it on. I'll grant you he wouldn't want to give up 30K every time he turns around but I would say 500 bucks to most people making a normal living would mean MUCH more than 30K to Meyer. I know the percentages would be in the same ball park but you have to look at it from the fact that a guy making multiple millions of dollars has so much more disposal income than a regular joe that its not even a worthy comparison.

Yeah, you're absolutely correct. Urban will have loads of disposable income left over after a $30k fine. But, my point is that $30k, even for somebody as wealthy as him, is plenty enough to get your attention and to influence behavior. Chump change to me means he would have no qualms getting fined repeatedly and indefinitely if he kept getting the same fine. $30k will shut him and any other coach in the SEC up - if they have an inkling of intelligence or regard for the money they make.

You show me a man who makes $4M a year that views $30k as chump change, I'll show you a man who won't have a nickel to show for it later on down the road - like this guy.

does this mean the next guy to get out of line (Kiffin) gets a 30K fine, or does the SEC kick it up a notch. Also, at which point does it go from big fine to suspension?
