I would be shocked if Murphy reps the West in Big 1a. I think Mt.Airy will roll Murphy if they meet up.

Mt Airy might beat Murphy but under no circumstsnces will they "roll" them. Either way East Wilkes isn't part of the discussion, either team would kill ya'll.

If anybody just "rolls" Murphy I'd have to see it to believe it, you don't never know till you meet up and see which way tha ball rolls!!

I don’t see anyone taking Murphy out behind the woodshed as they say. I think Murphy is peaking as usual right when they need to. From all accounts the defense was nasty tonight. To hold Cherokee to 6 points up until the last 18 seconds of the game on their home turf should say a lot. The playoffs this year are going to be great for the first time in a long time I think.

Real talk, Murphy played a good game. Both teams were sloppy with turn overs. Murphy gave Cherokee every opportunity to win. Just didn't want it. Hats off to Murphy. The conference champion getting drawn in a hat I I was told is what Gentry(Murphy)voted for. Cherokee got the big straw for the night. Good luck to y'all if you go Big, if not until we meet again.

Swain probably said the same thing about Cherokee as far as not getting rolled. We all see how that one played out. Face it. These kids are teenagers and anything, I mean anything can happen. This includes any team getting rolled on any given day. No one saw 3 time defending State champ Shelby getting rolled by South Point last night by 20 either, and it wasn't really that close.

Wilkes Central would beat Murphy as well. Heck Swain beat you and they lost by 30 to Cherokee. Franklin will get drug by a real 2a team like S.point, Reidsville or Shelby. Murphy is good. However EW and Murphy have identical records. You may beat EW. You may not. Both teams have proved that they both can dominate one week, and be waaay beatable the next.

Guess tha only thing that sucks for us compared to Murphy is, our whole line goin both ways and Murphy had a d line, o line, special teams line!! That's 1 of tha biggest differences!! And like curry is just a qb and punter and that's it, our qb don't come off tha field!! Murphy is tough!! I haven't seen our line tested like it was late-night!!!

How about not changing what was working for us, as in moving players around for the last and most important game of he season. We are definitely capable to sub the qb out on defense.

I’d say it be hard to sub our qb as he prob one of the best defensive players we have. I noticed we took Santa Maria out and can’t for the life figure why, he didn’t look like anything was wrong with him. Seemed odd for sure

I agree he, qb, is one of the best defensive players, but I believe he is more important for our offense. I can’t understand the Santa Maria thing either, starts all year then.......

And that's not a jab at curry!! I didn't see Maria out there much last night!! Wonder what that's about for real!! Mintz is hard to beat on d, but he's very careful with that hand when he goes in to make a tackle!!

One thing for sure we need one of the biggest strongest most athletic kids we have on field not on sideline

I’ve seen Coach Gentry and his staff shift away from this very mentality over the past ten years, and it’s been fascinating. Numbers help, but it’s not remotely the whole story.

What!!??? That's very a vague response!! Are you Talkin numbers of kids on tha team or size!!!??? Your outta your mind thinkin 14 can beat a team of 30 or 40!! I know only 11 can get on tha field but tha same wore out bodies against new, energized, hydrated bodies in the 4th quarter makes a big difference!!!! Murphy bulldogs, north Carolina, Cherokee county, head coach David gentry coachin staff get away from numbers don't matter mentally!!????!! They moved like 10 kids from jvs to a 30 man varsity roster, and it's been like that as long as I can remember!!! You crazy and should've just said nothin!!!!!

For a team that's never in his 32 years have to worry about numbers that was crazy, smart stupid to me!! Just cause there not tha numbers your use to seein in that 5 or 6a Florida teams don't mean they don't have more then most smc teams, tha only 1 comparable is swain in numbers!! 300 is not real, it's just a movie!!

But he's talkin like Murphy has been cuttin back on players or they have struggled to field a team and still winnin state titles!! And if most of unz on here are seriously not from Florida then you know that's not tha case!!

Ok. At FS, sophomore Luke Charles had 3 picks vs. Swain in 06, but he never played another down there. Why? Because the mentality started to change. By the Seth Curtis era, Seth was the most talented DB in the conference, and watched from the sidelines. Murphy instead played all year and won state with a corner who ran a 5.2 forty.

In a 16 game season, which is what Murphy plans for...protect your assets, increase buy-in from less talented but highly motivated players, and recognize that a subpar athlete playing all out is better (and better for your program) than a drained 2-way starter. It takes time to build this, and you’ve gotta check off a lot of boxes ( fantastic position coaches, weights, film study, reward systems, practice setup, special teams play and mop up duty) to make it work.

That's pretty good for a team who's had tha same coach for 32 years and tha same coachin staff around him for tha same time or a little less!! You seem smart and people who see your posts thinks it's manna from above!! You know that so you should know that there's a revolvin door at our school with coaches and I've heard Briggs cancer has flared back up on him so he'll be battlin that to be back with us next year!! And I hope he overcomes it for his sake 1st and then gets to be back with us!! It seems like we MIGHT have tha numbers for a little bit so will see if we have a dependable back ups to where we can go by that method moped master!! Do see and understand what your sayin, we just don't have 20-40 kids every year to choose from and try that!!

Not at all knocking Cherokee, my man. I just commented on a philosophy and you asked for clarification. I think the greatest thing Coach Briggs has brought to the program (visible to outsiders) is getting great buy in. Cherokee used to have holes here and there between its great athletes, but they’ve patched those holes with kids rising to the occasion—and there is no greater success in education than getting kids to succeed beyond expectations—and I personally hope it’s the sign of more positives to come.

Depended on which WC or Murphy team showed up. Both Murphy and WC have proved that if you play lackluster you will get beat. WC played pretty terrible. Some of that credit goes to Pisgah.

The programs that win year-in and year-out make good football players out of the ordinary kids that put the pads on.
