Just an update on the Snowmageddon situation with Tgar.

We got up at 4 am to fly from Santiago to Atacama. Made the flight. Massive storms yesterday and again today have flooded various sections of the high dessert.

After a two hour drive to Atacama we have now completed a two hour drive back to the airport serving the region as our hotel is inundated with two feet of mud. It would have been nice to know that detail last night.

We grabbed two seats on the last flight back to Santiago to regroup as we cannot fly home early either given the Blizzard about to start overnight.

Stay safe, stay warm, Vaya con Dios!

tonight, empanadas and Cervezas.

You get up every morning and you go to work each day
(You go to work, you go to work, you go to work)
Been doing the same damn job for ten long years this May
(You've got to work, you've got to work, you've got to work)
You've been working and saving for your Jamaican dream
Paradise is waiting across the sea
But when your plane lands Montego turns to Monsoon
You've got the Island Blues

While not all, multiple ski areas in NEPA are closed today. This did not happen when I was growing up because ski resorts, you know, kind of like snow and stuff. Times are different.

I was a kid during the Blizzard of '96. I actually had a slalom ski race at Big Boulder that Sunday when it hit (yes, the same exact discipline Mikaela Shiffrin always wins). Not only was Big Boulder open for business, but they didn't cancel the race either. Honestly, it was difficult racing in those conditions, but we still did it. Normally, we would return home Sunday nights to SEPA, but instead got stuck in our Poconos camper for the night due to highway closures. The next day after the sun came back out, we had to venture a couple miles into town on foot just to get a few things at the grocery store since we hadn't planned on staying that long. Walked in the deep snow uphill both ways, of course.
FYI, everyone. Eagles Mere toboggan run is open for the 2nd year in a row. I believe it's $35.00.

Be careful out there. I lost a friend ten years ago who stroked out shoveling a minor snow. If you can afford it hire someone to do it for you. Shoveling two feet of snow is a young man’s game.

I hope your neighbors appreciate your sons' efforts. He's making their life very easy.
Thanks, Nittering, in the earlier yrs I did the plowing.
At one time the properties were immediate family, we built the houses ourselves in the late 70's -early 80s.
Two properties are now owned by outside the family.

Good Boy you have there. I would love to explore the woods where you live, thick and dense from the recon shots. Any good trout streams where you reside Step.eng69?
Not really Mr. Potter,

@Bkmtnittany1 should be able to give you information on trout streams.

Harvey's Creek with the headwaters on Harvey's Lake (largest natural lake in PA) and travels 13 miles to the Susquehanna River. The state stocks the stream, also Bowmans's Creek about 7-miles north of me and other tributaries with the headwaters originating in the Mountain Spring Lake-Ricketts Glen State Park.

See if it holds but the Euro has been hinting at another 36 inches of snow for Eastern PA this coming weekend.... Long way to go and it's not a forecast just showing what is a possibility ... so people don't freak out if this was Friday then it would be time to freak out and go buy your milk and eggs, bread, liquor store, etc. Bottom line is there will be a coastal storm floating around this coming weekend and early next week. Long way to go to see where it heads.

The Weather app on my phone said 16-20 inches this coming Sunday. Checked it as soon as I saw your post… now it says no snow at all!

Accuweather had the Low over the Carolinas and the snow skirting largely along the coastline, possibly offshore. That would work for this kid.

I’m telling you, digging out from the sleet this afternoon was back-breaking work. We cleaned down to the pavement yesterday before the sleet started and today got the sleet off.

Because it is all done via computer and no person. Latest runs have NJ getting heavy snow before it slides off the coast. Long way to go. The storm will bounce around with its path until we get better sampling into the models. Something to keep an eye on for now

Got 18 yesterday on top of the 4 inches that was on the ground. No melt this week… no way I want another foot

Cumulative pounding hurts.
No Cumulative pounding for me.
At my age the arthritis is so terrible in my hands; had to resort to protection......

Steps back towards snow. NJ took a pounding on this morning model runs. Gotta wait to Thursday then the energy will be onshore we need and better sampling for the models

Crap data in - crap data model out:

Weather models utilize a variety of data sources to create accurate forecasts. These include:

Check out the low temps forecasted.. ugh!
Yea it's not good. My mom is in Western PA and their temps for the week are brutal. She said the snow hasn't been much of an issue this year, but it's been very cold and very, very windy since Halloween.
I'm trying to convince her to move to NM but she isn't having it. I may ask again this weekend. 🤷‍♂️

Great write up on this weekends snow storm for some.... Owner and Chief Met is a PSU grad

𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗘 𝗼𝗳 𝗜-𝟵𝟱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁... 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆:
Using the NAM to illustrate here, but we could really use anything. As labeled above, we have:
#1: The northern stream energy that dives south toward the lower Tennessee Valley or Deep South and forms a formidable upper level low
#2: The southern stream energy that combines with the upper level low and eventually phases, and forms this storm... this energy is now in the North Pacific
#3: A separate energy piece moving ahead of both that acts to lower heights on the Eastern Seaboard ahead of the system, forcing a farther south close off and phase, and not allowing it to gain latitude at least initially
#4: This is mostly off the map on this Friday morning image, but this is the "kicker" energy that once the system tries to gain latitude Sunday will act to kick the entire system farther east and further offshore.
#3 and #4 play into this as prominently as the main energy pieces. #3 closes the ULL off too far south as the initial ejection/starting point, so it is starting off pretty far south. By the time it does gain latitude, the kicker arrives (#4) and shunts the then-neutral tilted trough farther east....allowing for a scrape of the coast and that's it.
Washington/Baltimore/Philly are virtually unscathed, as well as areas to the NW. You can hope for a miracle if you want, but expect minor shifts only from this point forward. A wise man once said, you can wish in one hand, crap in the other, and see which one fills up first. It's quite alright though... there will be other opportunities in February. Interior areas could use a break quite frankly.
WE STILL COVER Southern NJ, Delaware, and parts of Maryland. So there WILL be maps/discussions/alerts later this week if still warranted. But outside of those areas, a very low chance to see effects.

We got 14-16 here in Lilly last weekend. But between the wind and the minor snows we got, ill be out cleaning up again today. Wife said 22 to Altoona was a skating rink this morning. I dont mind the snow, but the single digit high temps and wind can go away any time now.

Not surprised about 22 and Altoona. Ebensburg was always iffy and don't get me started on Cresson Mt. I swear I saw Ice fog in July.
Temps in Somerset, PA are brutal.

That highway is awful. My youngest is learning how to drive now. We were out last night and I was talking to her about how much nicer old 22 is. No traffic. No cross winds.
