Most memorable for me was going to the hump for a double header game with the threat of snow. We walked over from Suttle with no costs. Mend game finished and we had to walk back to Suttle in like 4 inches.During my 4 years at MSU and 2 additional years following, it never snowed one single time.

Snow was more common (maybe 3 or 4 times over my 5 years) when I was there, and it never shut down since almost all the students stayed in dorms and walked to class. The only time I remember closing was when we had snow during spring break, which happened to also be Easter, and students were all gone and couldn't get back so it was closed for a day or two.During my 4 years at MSU and 2 additional years following, it never snowed one single time.
We had a pretty significant ice storm my freshman year. Wasn’t much of a choice but to shut down. 95-96 school year. Not sure if factual, but I've heard they started closing for winter weather when Dr Z slipped on some ice in the late '90s.
Yeah, I was there then too. Pretty sure it was ‘95. Seems like it was shut down for 2-3 days because the roads were iced over. Several of us took cardboard, trashcan lids, etc and spent hours sliding down the large hill on an iced over College View just off campus…We had a pretty significant ice storm my freshman year. It closed a couple of times while I was there in the early 80s. That was well before Dr. Z.Snow was more common (maybe 3 or 4 times over my 5 years) when I was there, and it never shut down since almost all the students stayed in dorms and walked to class. Somewhere in that time period we had snow/ice and our hoops team had a night game and was good enough to warrant a packed house. I basically slid past Magruder(sp?) leaving the hump and it was a slippery ride back to the apt.We had a pretty significant ice storm my freshman year. Yep. My, ahem, Senior year(I had a redshirt in there). I remember sliding down the hill by the old Sack 'n Save grocery store. Did the same on campus. Fun times.Yeah, I was there then too. I know for sure there was a big sleet / snow storm in north MS in 96. I’d just gotten my first 4-wheeler in summer of 95. Sometime that winter we got like 3” of sleet plus 1-2” of snow. Turned the roads into pure ice after that snow melted & refroze. My high school was closed the entire week. Froze my *** off riding 4 wheelers and sledding all day every day. There were two major ice storms in Mississippi in the 90's that I remember. 94 was the Delta Ice Storm that basically shut a lot of that area down for a month.
The one I remember better was 96. Was living in an older house in Madison and spent the night in the middle of the house on a couch hoping a tree didn't come crashing in on top of me. Just snap and boom all night long.
Shreveport was a B in 2000 too!!!Same. But Shreveport was a bitchh
Same for me. I remember ice in Jan 89 because I had to walk from Sessums to the Tin Gym to work intramural games. Busted my butt several times going to and from. I don't believe School shut down during a couple of days though.I can't recall ever getting a snow day while i was there, but to be honest.... most of it is a blur.
You are correct. I was working in Oxford at the time and all of the streets around our neighborhood were Hills. It was a crapshoot to whether you were going to make it home at night or be able to get out the next day. Scariest I've ever been driving a vehicle.I know for sure there was a big sleet / snow storm in north MS in 96. I’d just gotten my first 4-wheeler in summer of 95. Was it LSU? Because I distinctly remember being snowed in for days in our apartment complex, and the only time we left was to the Hump for hoops... And I think it was against the Tigahs.Somewhere in that time period we had snow/ice and our hoops team had a night game and was good enough to warrant a packed house. That may be it! Signs in the Hump with "Shaquille O'Neal ain't no big deal" along with a number of other jabs at him. Great time to be a hoops fan at State! Was it LSU? We had a large time that week. University Commons was rocking.
What year was that? I have a similar memory. Early 90s. Pick up snowball fights broke out outside the Hump. Most memorable for me was going to the hump for a double header game with the threat of snow. We walked over from Suttle with no costs.
