If you know what the crowd hard camera angle looks like on TV. Then you’re part of the problem.
That's to be expected. There were more UT fans in our handicap areas than MSU people.
This is a major issue imo. I blame cohen for most of this. We have to show commitment to football from our fanbase if we want to be successful in the SECNo one wants to attend games. It’s not just a facility problem. 10-15 years ago if I had a couple of extra tickets, I could post on FB and they’d be sold to state fans in a few hours. Last 5 years I haven’t been able to give them away. I tried to get some of my old crew together to tailgate yesterday… no luck. Not a single person out of 6-7 guys wanted to come to the game. Our fanbase simply isn’t what it was 10 years ago. We’ve basically lost everyone except for us diehards and it’ll be that way until we string together a couple of good seasons
It’s the socio economics of the local area more than anything. It always has been. That’s just fact.So it’s too hot and we’re too poor. Got it
I know a family like this. They will not miss a weekend baseball series home or away and will attend a football game once a decade. They were there yesterday though. Wearing orange.I have been sitting in section 21 for a long time. I saw another poster state that the faculty paid a premium this year for these seats and that is true. We had a lot of orange in the section yesterday. Whether this is people selling tickets on the secondary market or simply open seats that are available- I don't really know.
Our problem is that the fanbase really just doesn't care about football. Yes we show up (sort of) when we win but we really aren't invested like other fanbases. South Carolina has 80k show up to every home game whether good or bad. Even when we are good, and playing a good team, we are lucky to have 48k in the stadium. ASU was the biggest game in several years. At home playing a team that made the playoff last year, and there were MAYBE 50k people there.
Our fans put an emphasis on baseball. There are no excuses for baseball... Hot/cold, hotels, easy to watch on TV, it doesn't matter- People show up. In my opinion that's always been the problem. It's just a culture issue We fail to see the big picture that football is what matters no matter if you like it or not. Having a good football program funds the rest of the athletic department. Baseball doesn't even make a profit. Until we switch the emphasis to football being #1 we are constantly going to have this issue. I think changing the mindset is way easier said than done though.

We have thousands of State alumni that live within a 3 hour radius of Starkville that make plenty of money to attend 4-5 football games a yearIt’s the socio economics of the local area more than anything. It always has been. That’s just fact.
YikesI know a family like this. They will not miss a weekend baseball series home or away and will attend a football game once a decade. They were there yesterday though. Wearing orange.
Maybe they should move the main cameras to the east side.It looked like a neutral stadium, maybe even a bowl. Lacking our crowd shots, it looked even worse.
Three hours is a bit much for every game fans. That’s six hours of DRIVING. Minimum time at the game is 5 hours. You are talking 11 hours minimum. That’s the entire day. The young folks that have the energy to do that week in and week out are going to be dealing with kids and all they do for 18 years minimum. Your every game base, for the bad times as well as the good is 2 hours at the most, realistically it’s less. MSU has always relied on people that just buy tickets to support the athletic department to sell tickets, especially in the bad times. Those tickets are going to get sold. It’s always been that way except in our best years like under Mullen. My tailgate consists of at least 6 families that live roughly 3 hours away. They all have young kids. We all have a lot of fun tailgating and attending the games. It’s 6 Saturdays a year. Not sure why people complain. You’re either committed or you’re notThree hours is a bit much for every game fans. That’s six hours of DRIVING. Minimum time at the game is 5 hours. I’d like to see the numbers on how many were renewed compared to years prior. It's going to be hard to sell those east side tickets that are directly in the sun until there is higher demand.
Also talked to a few faculty and staff - prices went up this offseason so they chose not to renew. Those tickets are now on the secondary market for anyone to buy. So technically - it's not the faculty/staff reselling them.
I think this is pretty old. This is a seating map from the mid 2000‘s. It used to be a good bit different. Notice all the west side visitor seating at that point. Now obviously there used to be a lot more east side student seating, so expansion changed some things. Also it was a smaller stadium at that point. But point remains, the visitors taking over the East side has only really become a big thing in the last decade.
And like I mentioned, the bigger issue is that the hard TV camera picks up all of the visiting colors.

Definitely closer to 75/25 than 50/50You think it was a 50/50 split? It did not appear that way to me at all. Maybe 75/25.
So about 75/25 thenI would say the upper east side was at least 80% UT and the lower east side minus the students and band was 70%
It’s a lot that didn’t renew. You just need to do your part now and buy those seats. I gave up 6. They’re premium now. You have no excuse.I’d like to see the numbers on how many were renewed compared to years prior.
I support plenty. Glad you gave up yours like a b!ch!It’s a lot that didn’t renew. You just need to do your part now and buy those seats. I gave up 6. They’re premium now. You have no excuse.
I wasn't talking about me, and your tailgate is exceptional. Most people aren't going to do that. Most people are NOT that "committed" and never will be. Your every game base, thick or thin, is always going to be local, within at most two hours. We have the smallest population population in that range in the SEC and probably one of the smallest in the country. You are never going to get your whole geographic base, and ours is split three ways. You live in fantasy land, and to some extent our athletic department does too. They continually throw up barriers for local folks to attend the games. In the long run that is going to be very detrimental. My tailgate consists of at least 6 families that live roughly 3 hours away. They all have young kids. it’s fine if you don’t want to come to games, but just say it. Don’t say it’s too expensive or too hot. Those are just excuses because you’d rather be doing something else. But these are the same people that will show up in 40 degree weather to watch us lose 2 out 3 to Lipscomb in February at Dudy Noble
Hold on. Are you saying that more than 50% of our season tickets are less than 2 hrs away?I wasn't talking about me, and your tailgate is exceptional. Most people aren't going to do that. As for me, I've attended more than my share of games in football and especially basketball over the years. I'm getting old and like my comforts now. Going to a football game isn't comfortable anymore. It never was really but it's exponentially worse now. The thing is, young folks increasingly like their comforts now too. That didn't matter much back in the day to us, It does now. The times are changing, and our athletic department better get with it. What they are doing now is all well and good for the present, but if the situation back when I was a kid had been like it is now, I might not have ever gone to a MSU game of any kind. Just something to think about for the future.
So explain to me why we are the only SEC school struggling to fill our stadium right now? Does no other program “like their comforts” too? We have an attendance problem and I’m not sure it will be fixed. It’s a big issue in this era of football when you want to make your school as attractive as possible for students and recruits. Ole Miss is kicking our *** right now with thisI wasn't talking about me, and your tailgate is exceptional. Most people aren't going to do that. Yeah, I've beaten that dead horse for years. Chairback lower levels and reduce stadium capacity down to about 50K. Yes, chairbacks will fit as long as you have a jackhammer, shovels, picks, and some rebar/concrete forms, etc. Our stadium was built back in the day when men averaged 5'9"/175lbs. and had an a$s width of about 15-17". Look around and tell me if that works for nowadays people. This is why we need chair back seats, cut out 10% of the capacity in the process
(I know, they won’t fit)
I agree. I think you should bowl in the SEZ and Chairback everything except the student section and upper levels. Take capacity down a few thousand, but make it a nice smaller stadium.Yeah, I've beaten that dead horse for years. Chairback lower levels and reduce stadium capacity down to about 50K. No north end zone
I kept looking at the stands, I think it was just the orange on white that made itI would say the upper east side was at least 80% UT and the lower east side minus the students and band was 70%
Why shouldn't staff pay premium when they've used the discount to sell to the market?Drop the staff ****. That was all over the east side. They told staff they had to pay premium 1 laughable day before season tickets went on sale. That was an employee benefit. Staff said kiss my grits.
