State will likely end up with 4*s in P.J Jones, Leon Mackey, and is probably 50/50 with LSU(Ole Miss is a smoekscreen fwiw) for a 5* prospect in C.J Johnson. Add in Whitehead and Morrow being solid again and the class is better than what was expected back over the summer. Prior to Hudspeth getting in good with Madison Central people and Brassell's surprise/BS commit those two were easy to call Ole Miss locks. With the rating bumps and the OOS additions with Barron Dixon, Johnson from Florida, and the kid from Georgia this class has shaped up better than it was supposed to.

Now, that is all contingent on C.J signing and it's near a damn coin flip with LSU at this point.

we're losing CJ and Whitehead to the Bears due to not matching the Bear's ummmm, efforts in recruiting...

I'm not predicting this- just passing along a solid rumor

It's still between LSU and MSU. I heard Miles visit went over extremely well and he's in with mama. OM just seems like a smokescreen, IMo.

I have no idea if he's up for bid or what's going on exactly...but I do know that there's something strange going on, with all these guys. CJ said in the interview with Yancy that he likes Nix at Ole Miss and the reason he chose state was Diaz...when CJ committed in October of 2009, months before we hired Diaz and when Torbush was still his area recruiting coach. There's obviously no way Diaz was the reason he initially chose State.<div>

Nutts is desperate at this point as is their program. They are fully aware they will be ****** again next season, and I think Nutts is hoping to hold on to his job the same way Stansbury is- give them a big recruitng class to keep them happy another year

The most rational recruiting post this year.


Even if they land every top player in the state, they still have multiple problems. I'm thinking like you on this- they're probably a 4-8 team again next year with a possibility at being 6-6 at best.

That is to say just a decent bowl most years and you get 2.7 mill to throw around.

Mullen isnt much different save one thing....he's on the upswing of his career and wants the sears trophy and the big 'saban' payday.

Nutt just wants to be left alone outside of the 12 saturdays in the fall.

Cj and maybe the Mackey lb from JC would pretty much solidify a team for next year seeing that we lost two all conference LB's.

Mullen knows what battle he's got to fight the hardest. I think CJ is that battle.

I think that all this recroot'n drama comes down to Tobias Singleton. I think he got a dollar figure and all these recroot's know it. Factor in coaches leaving also. I think they know that Ole Miss is desperate and I think we are handcuffed to counter.

Why would he go north for Nix?!?! That dude is not going to be there the full term of CJ's 4yrs. Same goes for the Hat at LSU. His career is a LITTLE more stable than Nix's or Nutts', but come on.

why would think recruiting is not important to a coach, particularly one in the SEC? Cutcliffe and Sherrill were ultimately fired over such reasons. Was Urban Meyer desperate when he so heavily pursued Nu'Keese Richardson's signing? OSU and Michigan tirelessly tracked Terrell Pryor. I wouldn't call these coaches desperate; I'd call them smart enough to know that successful recruiting is part of their job performance evaluations in many ways.

de-commit was engineered by the Bears with alot of hard work (cough) on their part during the dead period. It appears that LSU has taken advantage of this situation and may end up being the beneficiary of the de-commit but that would still be a win in the bears eyes. We definetly in a tough spot on this one, I hope some luck comes our way.

given the timing of all this and this total lack of sense it makes about why several of these top in-state guys all suddenly and basically at the same time want to jump ship on the MSU program they have been long committed to right when things are looking so rosy for us only to hook on with our biggest rival that appears on the downhill slide.

At this point I think I will just go back to my daily tasks, not worry about it and expect a Croomesque type class. That way I won't be disappointed and if we do end up with these guys I can be happily surprised. But I will say I have NO doubt there is a sinister element to all this.

CJ didnt even have Mississippi on the radar until the week after the MS/AL allstar game which was followed by the "quiet" period when we were at the Gator Bowl.
During that "quiet" period, CJ, Singleton, Whitehead, and Brassell all had change of hearts regarding their committment to us. The smoke screen is LSU with Mississippi being the lean, hope like hell I have to eat my words. If CJ says its Diaz, then how does he sell the uncertainty of theMississippi staff. I knew they were Going Green in Oxford, just not that green

the fact that he was basically told by their fans he was not wanted there during the egg bowl and made he very snide comments about how horrible their defense was.....why on earth would anybody want to go there after being treated like that?

Diaz is not the reason given a guy that's been committed to us since late '09 before Diaz was even on our radar. It did provide him an unexpected convenient public excuse to decommit while his stock was on the rise though.

A couple of thinsg work in our favor with C.J. First, we were among the earliest to get in on recruiting him. Second, MC and SP are Ole Miss hot spots, but Philly is a heavy MSU area. I can almost assure you that most of his friends and neighbors are on him to go to State. MSU has a strong presence there.

I, too, was once young and idealistic. I'm sorry to tell you this, but unfortunately these "stronghold" areas only take a top-tier recruit so far. At some point, another program will come in and talk to the player (and his family. Don't forget the family.) And when that happens, and the recruit says "Everybody from <insert small="small" town="town" high="high" school="school"> goes to <insert college="college">. And I'm committed to them. My cousin/brother/stepdad/uncle was <insert former="former" football="football" star="star" at="at" said="said" college="college">. I'm sorry, but we're pretty firm with that commitment, unless there's... anything else we need to... talk about...?"

So the recruiter does one of two things, depending on the talent level of the player: Shakes hands, walks out and never thinks about him again, or says the following: "Well... we never do this... but... what if I could help your family? What if I could get you <insert what="what" the="the" player="player" cash="cash"></insert>car/momma a new job>?"

Really the only question left is, does the recruit have enough loyalty and/or cajones to go back to his commitment school and tell them about the offer, or does he just suddenly call the Clarion Ledger and tell them he's decommitting?

I hate to be the one who breaks young innocent spirits, although if you're on this board, I guess you can handle it.</insert></insert></insert>

This was told to me by an assistant coach at a sister SEC institution that shall remain nameless. Significant recruit in Mississippi is being courted by everybody in the southeast. Everybody. Coaching staff for SEC institution closest to recruit's home told recruit that he HAD to go to school with them because that's where every kid from that area went. Kid bought it at first. Big time SEC program comes in and says, hey, we're not that far away, your Mom can come see you play, we want you, we're good, they suck, etc., etc. Kid starts listening.

The next time assistant for big time program shows up, he notices that there are empty appliance boxes on kid's front porch. This was a house that you can count the dogs and chickens through the holes in the floor. Mama had a new stove, fridge, washer/dryer. Assistant went in, ate some cornbread that Mom served him, told Mom he appreciated her hospitality throughout that last year, and that he hoped the kid did well at the other school (he did, by the way).

Assistant told me he confronted the coaching staff about it and told them to shut down whoever it was that did it. They did. It went no further. This is pre-slive days.

Do you really believe he changed his mind that quickly?

As for any accusations about cheating, well, there's some saying about a pot and a kettle.

you are telling me that any ******* with a Sears card can buy a football player?

My wife's grandmother has one and even gets a senior citizen discount, I'll throw some washers and dryers around...SNAP.
