So a guy running down the field.......

with the ball is a defenceless player? What are you supposed to do, let him score?

He caught the ball..........

and got hit after he caught it. Bad call and a bad rule. If you want to take contact out of football then let's play flag football and be done with it.

A dumbass because I don't like a rule that is taking away some of the essence of the game? Football is (or was) and always has been a violent game. If you try to take the injuries out of the game then it's not the same game. A man catching or running with the ball in the open field is NOT a defenceless player. He is playing the game and is a legitimate target for contact, of any kind.

Did not "launch". The defender never left his feet. Looked like a hard shoulder to chest hit to me.

this is the definition of launch

Then don't respond at all to a subject like this. You only make it easier to see who the real dumbass is.

How can you be a AC/DC fan and not enjoy "thunder"...

show me where i said i didnt like hard hits, violent play, etc. all i said was that it was a rule. at no point did i say i liked the rule. im merely pointing out that complaining about it and saying dumb **** like "flag football" is ignoring the fact that the rule is the rule is the rule. damn

So you are saying that we should never question a rule of a game on a sports message board? I don't think you fully understand the purpose of this message board thingy.

Complaining about rules is how they get changed. Softies and anti-real football people like you complaining about hard hits is how that rule got put in. **

As I've said many times, if your safeties can't enforce the middle of the football field, you might as well play 3 corners at all times.

This new kickoff rule is horrible too. What these officials are doing is trying to take "real" defenses (SEC defenses) out of the game.

no dude question away. i just hope our players are being taught what the rules are so that we dont get 15 yard penalties for hitting defenseless receivers. the rule is not going away

In the very post I replied to you were mad because people were complaining about the rule. How is that not questioning it? Also, where do you think that rule came from? Yes, that's right. It came from people complaining that there should be one like it. They questioned the lack of having this rule.

Telling people to suck it up and not complain about a rule of a game on this or any board is dumb.

I don't understand this "defenseless" you and the NCAA speak of. Last time I checked, all players wear protective equipment that is rigorously tested for safety and comfort. If you don't want to get blown up by an SEC safety don't run a route up the middle of the field. Or better yet, don't play in the SEC. I feel like as we, the fans are giving an inch, they, the NCAA will take a mile in the next couple of years. It wouldn't surprise me if they made a rule where you couldn't lead with your shoulder pads.

Well boyo, the rule I'm complaining about was put in because people were complaining about hits like that one. That's how most laws and rules originate. Give it up on this line man. Argue about why you like the rule or something.

there is a pretty big difference between instituting a new rule where one didnt previously exist and repealing an existing one. which what you are talking about

Well, they moved the kickoffs back to the 35 this year. That repealed the move to the 30. You DO realize how stupid that arguement is don't you? It's the EXACT same process as instituting one.

Shs - he is not saying if the rule is good or bad. Just that we need to adapt to the rule b/c that's the way the game is called.

And I never said we didn't need to adapt to it. I just said it is a BS rule that goes against the essence of what football is. He finally said he didn't like it, but then compared it to speed limits. From the saftey point of view that IS a valid comparison, so is converting to flag football. From the point of view I'm argueing from, unless you are talking about the German Autoban or certain wide open stretches out west, it's not.

After further review he did leave his feet at the point of contact, but it was shoulder to shoulder. Went and reviewed it on ESPN3.
