So did we pull PJ Hardwick's offer?

He only got an offer because we wanted Josh Gray, but it seems we're separating amicably. Good luck to him.

PHardwick5: Msu thank you for everything, the fans where great and showed much love! I will be re-opening my Recruitment and going eleswhere. #hailstate

must have definitely been a decision by our staff to ask him to go elsewhere because he has been 100% ready to be a Bulldog for a while now even after the coaching change. Kind of strange as bad as we need warm bodies but I would assume if we are asking him to do this then we have someone else in mind to come in and fill the void.

I am all for seeing Ray succeed but I don't call losing Pollard and Gray "improving".

he seems to have a good attitude. 3 open spots again. Need another PG and two big rebounding shot-blockers.

Pollard never committed and we told Gray to take a hike because he has his hand out. Kansas St's new coach dropped Gray also- and he still doesnt have a school. Hardwick was just a thrown in- so obviously we feel there is a better player out there for us to sign. When we get a better player than Hardwick, that will be improvement

Being on a list of potential schools > Not being on a list of potential schools.

Even you should understand that.

In fairness to Ray however, it is way too soon to judge his recruiting one way or the other, good or bad. He is in a horrible situation at the moment with players leaving and the coaching change but I don't think you will find many that think he has improved upon the class Stansbury was putting together.

Are we even looking for another guard? In an interview Steele said he is expected to take the ball down the court 25% of the time. We're so guard heavy. Sign Davis, ask him to play 25-30 minutes a game, and split the remaining time with Steele and Sword. If we're passing the ball as much as we're suppose to I assume passing drills are going to be the bulk of practice, so why do we need a 2nd PG when we have 30 SGs? PJ was going to sit on the bench as it were.

looks like we are going to use the Hardwick scholly for a D-1 transfer to sit out this season. Thats an improvement
The Memphis kid over Gray and his baggage is improvement- we've seen how far talented nutcases get you

Pollard is a non-factor, we had no commitment from him. He clearly had the chance to sign with us in the early signing period.

he would have done it in Novermber. We hadalready done all we could do. He was not going to sign with us no matter what.

i'd rather hold a scholarship or 3 open for next year. we don't wanna get stuck with a lot of warm bodies taking up scholarships for 4 years because we just grabbed whoever we could this year to fill up the roster.

are no longer 4 year commitments from either the player or the coach. They are year to year nowadays. Filling all roster spots this year doesn't mean they are full for 4 years. Knowing this why would any coach leave open roster spots? Stop thinking a player will be with MSU for 4 years when he is signed. Start thinking he will be with us for one year and MSU and him have that first year to prove themselves to each other. It sucks but thinking players will stay with MSU all four years is being negligent to the reality that is college basketball in 2012. MSU has to stop being reactive with players and become proactive. Force the situations instead of having them forced upon us. Example of being proactive is telling Hardwick thanks but no thanks and then immediately signing a much better much more SEC ready PG 2 days later.

Schools would use that against you real quick in recruiting. "MSU/Ray doesn't honor their/his commitments, so why go there?"

i know how scholarships works. k thanx. that said, i don't wanna be a school actively cutting guys and pulling scholarships because after a year or 2 we've decided we are now too good for them. as tenureplan responded, it wouldn't be good for the recruiting trail. and i'm pretty opposed to it from a moral point of view too.

suprise here. From you or from MSU. The player is told before he signs he has a year to play. If he doesn't like it he can transfer and we will either renew his scholarship or won't if he has or has not met the standards. It can't be used negatively if it's an open door policy. MSU can just spin it right back on the other schools. "say you go to Bama and you hate Coach Grant and he buries you on the bench, well he's got you stuck for 4 years, not here, we don't ask for 4 years, we ask for one and then you decide if you like us or not". It's called dictating the situation instead of having it dicked on you.

where with some of our very best players under Stans transferred out after 1 or 2 years on a pretty consistent basis voluntarily. So what is the big deal if we cut a player here or there by asking them to transfer because they turn out to not be SEC caliber?
