I would imagine there would be some sort of limit that an insurance company covering a major University could be on the hook for in a case like this. I also imagine there will be some deep pocketed alumni making some hefty private donations to try and make this just go away in about 4 to 6 months.

I don't see how Penn State could win.

at least one of the civil cases go to trial just to see what more the lawyers could dig up during discovery. I still contend that there were numerous Penn State football players that were aware of this crap along with others. I don`t think PSU should be able to just buy their way out of this.

Does anyone think the NCAA steps in? Now that it is officially confirmed he did it (innocent until proven guilty) I could see the NCAA doing something to protect their image and take a stance on child abuse.

at least something about this could be uncovered the NCAA would have no choice but to pursue some sort of punishment. The fact is that this may be out of their "jurisdiction".

And if anyone should know about lack of institutional control, you would think a U of Miss grad would.

But he kept referring to SMU and the current questions at Miami and how if people in the athletics department at Penn State along with Administration knew this was going on under their nose and turned a blind eye, you cannot get more lax in your control of the institution and specifically the department of athletics.

I tend to agree. Paying recruits and/or players under the table pales in comparison to using athletics facilities to conduct heinous predator-like sex acts on young boys.

I am not condoning cheating, just saying using numerous means to "win" is just not even in the same ball park as being a perverted sexual deviate and essentially having perceived approval to go on without recourse for so many years.

I bet they have a tort claims act which limits the states exposure to significant damages.

They may lose on technicalities of not giving proper notice because some of this happened years ago

waiting on deck in case this jury was somehow hung or that animal was found not guilty otherwise. If 20 victims have been identified at this point, there could be as many as 50 (or more) total. We'll never know because some victims will never come forward.

After Penn St. officials like the former Pres. and AD knew what was going on,that animalretained his emeritus coach status with full access to the athletic facilities including the showers, where it is documented thatsome university officials knew he was raping young boys. Shame on the university, counselors that wouldn't believe the vicitims over the years, police that did not pursue complaints in the early years, and everyone else who could have stopped his heinous, systematic criminal activitiy. This is truly a sad, sad situation and no punishments will be too harsh for all adults and the university asa whole that share in the guilt.

I know they're a charitable organization, but a lot of Sandusky's access came through the organization.

Wow.

This from Wetzel's latest had me choked up.

Victim No. 9's mother wept at the memories of sending her son, against his wishes, to stay with Sandusky because she believed he needed a positive male role model.

As a parent, I still can't imagine how bad that must feel.

"Shep" is not a UMiss grad ... he just went there for a while. So he may not have been totally indoctrinated into the institutional control goings on there.

The NCAA has been in it since November. PSU got a LOI in November and they had until December to respond. Who knows when the NCAA will be done.

the Pennsylvania State University is its own target rich environment. Even with tort claim limitations, their *** is on fire (I don't have the time nor inclination to explain respondeat superior, civil conspiracy, and fraud as a basis for tolling SOL to you f'n lightweights, so just go with it). Even with a comparative neg system, tPSU is 17d.
