What about the OM lineman who was rumored to be a "privite commit" to Croom? I wonder if there's anybody Mullen and staff are working on under the radar.
Who's Ricky Johnson?</p>
This guy intrigues me. I saw his video. He played a lot of option QB in high school and chewed up yards in quick chunks on video. He is a soft verbal to Arkansas and has been in Starkville all weekend.
We have 22 commits, 23 if you count Baker Swedenburg. All of our commits are expected to be eligible except for possibly 1. So we are only looking at maybe 4 more commitments.
As 8dog said, we need a couple of corners. Top targets are Pat Miller and Martez Thompson. Aubrey Phillips is likely to stick with UT and we have backed off of McCray. So the last 2 spots will go to "best available". Billy Hamilton is a possiblity along with Ricky Johnson who is a speedy WR. He is a soft verbal to Arkansas. We will know more about his visit this afternoon.
regardless of who we get, you really have to applaud the job done by these guys coming in and getting on recruits the way they have- especially with Mullen having to stay on with Fla through the title game. Recruiting did nothing but get better after Crooms was run off. These guys are doing a helluva job.
I hear that Billy Hamilton is one of the top targets on the list. He's got good speed and really athletic. He talked to Cohen yesterday to discuss the possibility to play baseball as well. His grades are rumored to be a problem, but supposedly he has just as good as a chance as Patterson.
If he can get his grades in order, I think we could hold off the draft to get him in. He really wants to go to school.
This staff has not only held the commits together for the most part, but they have also gotten in on some guys that Croom would not have been able to get like Perkins.
I'm not here to sing his praises, but we should give him credit where it is due-he had a pretty good class started - no question, Mullen and team have made it a lot stronger, and will do more with it on offense though.
