So does everyone agree, the SEC's Wild Card would have to be Auburn War Eagles

Guss gets those good athletes to playing up to their potential or there's still a bad hangover from the former Iowa State Cyclone coach.

I haven't looked at their schedule...but from what I saw last year they were lacking in the QB and WR dept. I really think they are on our talent level, which is about 7 wins worth in the SEC west. 8 with a soft OOC schedule. We always defended Gus right into his gameplan, hopefully this time we will do a better job. Also, we've really played with them 3 years in a row. Should be a good game.

I think we're more likely to beat Ok State than Auburn. I think Auburn wins 8 games this year. <flame away>

I see 6 wins. That's all I got, and I feel like that is being generous. To me a wild card is a stretch. It's going to take a year or two for Gus to reverse what Chizik left behind. Their lack of continuity at QB will be their weakest link obviously. Honestly, like every year between our two schools....I think our game with them is pivotal for both squads. The loser may not see 6 wins.

No way, we get Auburn game 3! They will not be performing the offense that Malzahn wants done that early in the season. He has a complicated offense or atleast complicated enough that they won't be able to use but 60-70% of the playbook. I'd be worried about Auburn if we got them late in the season. Not early.

The SEC West is a big wild card this year. Lots of question marks

I think this year will be very unpredictable, well that's my prediction.

Auburn: Sure Gus is back but Cam Newton isn't walking through that door. In fact who is their QB?

Arkansas: I have no idea if Big 10 style football is going to work at Arkansas, especially in year 1.

Alabama: Probably the most 'sure thing' out there but they lost a ton of talent on both lines. At some point inexperience will catch up to them.

LSU: see above

Texas A&M: Lost talent on the OL, is Manziel a head case? Not to mention losing Kingsbury.

Ole Miss: Was last year fools gold, will Wallace's arm be healthy by Vandy? Is Freeze the next Chip Kelly?

State: Were our defensive woes really just bad coaching, and will Collins fix it? We could go either way. We could be great or we could totally stink, just don't have a feel on it.

I could see State and Ole Miss both beating one of Bama, LSU, or A&M but lose some sure win game. I just think it'll be all over the place. I also think this year will end the SEC's reign as National Champs. Ohio State has a powder puff schedule. I'm guessing Ohio State and Stanford/Oregon in the national championship because I don't think anyone in the SEC will be undefeated at seasons end.

Yes, when you look at the fact that they have talent in the ranks.

No, when you look at their skill positions outside of RB, especially at QB as mentioned by others. The variable is if they can improve their defense enough to keep them close in games, but that is a whole lot of improving in a short time.

Glad we have them early before they have a real chance to possibly jell... you can bet they will surprise someone along the way next season.

The SEC's reign continues and I think it comes out of the East this year. Florida, South Carolina and Georgia could be the top 3 in all the SEC.

Their QB play is going to have to be dramatically improved. They definitely have the recruiting stars but without an efficient QB, it isn't going to matter. They didn't appear to have an C-USA QB, much less SEC QB on the roster last year.

Mizzou is a pretty big wild card as well. They lost 3 OL and one of the best RB in the country prior to last season -- then lost a very good dual threat QB during the season. It's like one season where they miss bowl eligibility by a couple of points after a ridiculous amount of injuries -- and they are written off as bottom dwellers. Everyone just forgot about the 63 games they won the 7 years prior...

Doubt it was the same offense with Chizik still head coach but even if it is they are still under a new head coach with new assistants and lots of new everything and getting them in game 3 is a HUGE benefit for MSU. We beat Auburn just on this alone. Add in that we have a 5th year SR. QB and a 1,000yd SR. HB along with a seasoned OL and this game should be a 14+ win for MSU.

Doubt it was the same offense with Chizik

I don't see why not. Chizik is a defense guy who allowed a complete change in style by a new OC last year; I'm fairly sure Malzahn would have had full control of the reigns. Sure, there will be some growing pains, but a good chunk of that team already knows his system, and all of his players with the exception of this year's freshmen have been recruited for it. They will be better than last year. Maybe that won't turn out to be saying a lot, but it's naive to think they'll be just as bad or worse. You're right that it's good we have them early.

First - or at least tied for first

I wish people that posted about other teams actually watched other teams or at least did their research.

Who is their quarterback? You've got to be kidding me. Their junior quarterback, and probable starter, was only a consensus Top 4 quarterback in his class. He had troubles because they changed from the spread to a pro-style. People raved about Wallace last year. Wallace couldn't hold a candle to this guy in his element. As far as WRs, they only have 5-6 4-star Wrs on their roster. Maybe one of them will figure it out. Tre Mason will carry the load at TB. Another advantage that they have is that AU has the element of surprise with a new system, a negative for the opponents, but a positive for AU since most have had some exposure to it.

Their game plans will be fundamentally sound as they have two of the best coordinators in the game with loads of misused talent.

I have more faith in beating LSU at Starkville than I do winning at AU.

TSUN might be the wildcard. People now have plenty of tape and a summer to prepare for the Run-n-Poot. They now have better talent, but few true freshmen make an immediate impact. In sum, people generally give TSUN a better chance to succeed than AU.

I don't care how many stars he has or what offense he was recruited for....he looked terrible all of last year.

Now, I respond, I don't care what he did last year, he's just that damn talented. But we know that he definitely can't get any better.** And now he has the proper coaching to succeed. But what does coaching have to do with it; Crxxm never wasted any talent?**

All of last year? He only played half the season.

Did anybody at AU, besides maybe Mason, impress?

They don't have as many good athletes as you might think. Their attrition has been really bad.

I agree they are a wild card in the East. They have all the tools on offense to be dangerous this season, but I just do not believe they have the SEC caliber Defense to stay in games. The WR they have, Green-Beckham, will be one of the best WR's in the country this year, IMO. If they can stay healthy I think they might sneak up on some teams this year.

You said it well. We've never been able to stop a Gus Malzahn offense effectively (except '10). All they did to us in '09 and '11 is run jet sweeps and we gave up a tremendous amount of yardage by playing back and letting them manhandle us on the edge.

I don't expect much out of Auburn or Arkansas

that doesn't mean they can't beat us, but I don't see either being very good.
