We're in an odd spot where we have to fill the AD spot and coaching spot. I wouldn't want the chancellor doing it by himself, which is basically the only other option than having a committee take the lead with the help of a search firm.

breaking new ground on this one I think. Archie is a great guy without a doubt and will have plenty of help but as we have seen from recent searches it isn't as easy as one might think to make a quality hire and experience in that area should not be discounted.
As knowledgeable as Archie may be how can he be non biased? And the Fed Ex guy, you know he's probably directly or indirectly footing a significant portion of the bill for this. How can his opinion not be affected by what the bottom line might mean. I know this will sound homerish but the way Byrne hired Chuck Neinas's firm to find a coach was excellent.
If the next coach doesn't perform well then does that tarnish Archie? Just seems way to incestuous. In my mind I'm picturing Dan Jones, Archie, and Fed Ex fat cat sitting around the fire with brandy and cigars discussing who's going to be the next coach.

Say it any way you want, the 'good ole boy' network is still pulling the strings. Archie and Glenn are there to hear from the alums who will be telling them what they will give and what they won't if their guy doesn't get hired. Why even waste the money for a search firm when you have these two at the helm?

I'm betting not many people. Maybe you trust your president. Jones isn't an athletics-centric chancellor, and we just fired our AD. Who else would there be under normal circumstances?
Many factions that want different things and no one pulling the same direction. This is a hot mess waiting to happen. Its bad now and could get much worse.
