I'm not trying to spread rumors at all... Just curious what other people think. I know Del Conte has said he isn't leaving. But today I got a message on my phone that Sam McKewon, Steve Sipple, & HuskerNation on Scout started following Del Conte on twitter as of today? Just find the timing of them following him weird as it was after he said he's not leaving but then they all start following? I think he'd be a good hire but after he said he isn't leaving why are Husker writers and the Husker Scout account following him?

Because rumors were flying they wanted to see what he would tweet? Maybe?

You work it behind-the-scenes as far as you can. You work towards an agreement. I realize the details don't get ironed-out until later. The whole point is...get the dialogue going as soon as possible and advance the discussions along the way.
Pederson had an "agreement" with Wannie. How did that work out for us? You don't can a coach unless you have to. It's too damned expensive if you screw it up like Pederson did. Now IF Tom, Tim, Howard and Jim are on the phone with Scott and he says he wants the gig and will take it if offered...so be it I guess if that's what the minions want.

Sam followed him yesterday before the tweet. They just want to be the ones to break the news.

It can happen. It just won’t without an AD. Not many ADs will take a job if the head football coach is already hired
You basically got the choice between Scott Frost or Scott Frost anyway. Might as well hire someone who can find a basketball coach.

My point is, if potential candidates are being told what hiring/firing decisions are to be made before they even get the job, that could turn off potentially great candidates who are supposed to be paid to make their own decisions.
The thing is though that they're going to get a pass even if the results turn out poorly. They'd get a few years of no pressure, then they'd get to make their own decision if things don't work out.

Agreed, IF everyone is in agreement with firing the coach.

Only if Riley is fired and Frost is hired BEFORE the new AD is hired. Perception is reality. If the next AD hires the coach, the coach is that AD's hire. Fans and boosters would flip on the AD and start saying things like, he should have hired his own guy and not succumb to the pressure, or he knew what the deal was at Nebraska when he took the job. There are no free passes in big time college sports. If I was looking at this AD job, I make sure that if Bounds and Green want Riley fired and Frost hired, they do it before I take the job. That is the only way he gets a free pass. If he comes in and fires Riley and hires Frost, even if it isn't his choice, it's his hire.
