And the coach personally screws over their fans by carting them 5,500 miles away to take on a 7-5 WAC team.
If that trip is too costly for 8 of 10 USM fans to take, I imagine the school will wind up in the red after it's all said and done as well.
So not only does beating Houston cost their conference revenue, but the choice of bowls should complete the toilet flush nicely.

Well done, Nasty Bunch.

..part of the contract the SEC insisted upon for the favor of playing in Liberty Bowls. Every so many years (or when the SEC has 9 eligible teams, I forget, nor care...), Liberty can't put a CUSA team in there.

The SEC has 10 bowl tie-ins. The bowl in Birmingham is essentially an SEC invention. So to keep it viable they made the Liberty Bowl agree to a contract where if the SEC only has 9 bowl eligible teams the Liberty Bowl has to push to CUSAchamp and pick from the Big East. This gives the bowl in Birmingham a chance of picking up a CUSA team to fill the gap.
