Costello, Eason and Patterson were probably the 3 big QB names early on in that class (as in before the rankings even came out). Patterson (#4 player over on the composite rankings) and Eason (#5) ended up being higher ranked than Costello (#46) but he was (an early) #1 on the board for a good number of schools including mine. Obviously Michigan didn't land him but he was a priority for the Hoke staff since he was a soph and one of the first 2016 kids Harbaugh called when he took over.
Michigan did land its second choice in Peters (#61). Not bringing this up to brag...rather, coincidentally both Costello and Peters ended up on the same team at the Army All American game and went head to head for a week...even our own Michigan homer writers admitted that Costello looked like the better prospect and was appropriately ranked higher.
And BTW...the #2 QB in cali referred to in the article might be FSU commit Malik Henry who is listed as a pro-style on other sites and ranked #48 overall on the composite rankings.
