I'm not sure, something about dropping

A ring down the bat which does sound like dents. I'm sure none of our bats were dented*

Yeah, that's it. ****, we could have played with rocks all year and our bats would past the "ring" test.

I know baseball has all kinds of ways to look for an advantage - scuffed balls, Emory boards, Vaseline, pine tar or any sort of substance that pitchers can use, corked bats, etc. What advantage do you get from a dented bat? There must be something if they feel the need to check every bat for dents.

Or in our case, a flat spot on a bat pointed downward would increase the chances of our bunt attempts going downward and dying increasing the chances of us assuring that first out of the inning

i dont know how college baseball bats relate to slow-pitch softball but i can tell from experience, it make a HUGE difference in softball. you can get a "hot" bat by having it rolled providing significantly more pop to the bats. often, these types of bats do not hold up to the test of time resulting in structural breakdowns of the bat, sometimes dents, sometimes splits in the bat head itself. a dented bat can still be used and retains its pop until it loses its structural integrity totally.

to be clear, i am not saying that is what took place here, merely, i am giving my knowledge of what is done to some softball bats. its kinda pathetic people go to those lengths to make an otherwise legal softball bat illegal (illegal to the game), but people DO go to try to gain an advantage that way.

it will be interesting to see if it affects their hitting, but i doubt we see any sizable change other than fewer home runs, but that will mostly be due to the size of td ameritrade more than anything. if there is a noticeable loss of pop in their bats, there will be strange things afoot and tomfoolery might be a valid suspicion.

again, i have no idea how this translates to a college baseball bat....let that be clear.

Besides providing a flat contact surface as the others have mentioned, dents of any shape or size indicate the possibility of the bat's surface being weakened due to shaving.

At least Bianco finally started doing what probably every team does, cheat until they make you stop

The way that park plays, you'd think they'd make rolled bats mandatory, not illegal.

Can someone provide a link that proves that any other schools besides Ole Miss had bats confiscated where the source for that information isn't Sikes Orvis (or any other member of the Ole Miss program)?

Until then, consider me skeptical.

Obviously if the situation were serious and an obvious example of the incredible cheating you are so sure it is, the NCAA would extend some kind of penalty to Ole Miss aside from taking away the bats. I bet you guys are big fans of Alex Jones.

OM just set the precedent. From now on each team's bats will be tested before every game. Early indication is it will be named the Orvis Rule*
