and tossing around the idea of trading Rudy gay before the deadline. I can understand not wanting to overpay for him at the end of the season, especially with OJ, Gasol, and ZBO contracts all coming up in a few years. With that being said if they are going to trade him in the middle of the season while they are right in the middle of a play off hunt they damn well better get someone in return that can fill his spot

Hopefully that wont happen... I've come to terms with the fact that we're going to lose Gay at the end of the year, but dont give him up for Brewer... HECK no...

Oh I dont think he would be in the Brewer trade. Supposedly they are only going to give up one of their first round picks for Brewer just because Utah wants to get under the luxury tax. Rudy would be in a separate trade. I do think if they feel he will get overpaid at the end of the year, and they don't want to do that they should trade him. It just needs to be for another starter who can step in and keep it going

...the Grizz make a three year commitment to accumulate draft picks, keep their talent in-house, and build around their youth, but when it FINALLY starts paying dividends, they decide to trade Rudy Gay at the deadline? That's just stupid. The Grizz are well under the cap, and they have plenty of financial flexibility to pay Rudy Gay. It will go down just like it went down for Josh Smith of the Hawks. The Grizz will let him go find another deal, and then they will match the offer sheet, which they can do since he's a restricted free agent.

There's no way they break up this team now. If they do, Chris Wallace will supplant Isiah Thomas as dumbest GM of all time.

Ronnie Brewer would be a big pickup for the bench, though.

I would love for them to keep the 4 main guys here and I hope they do. It is just stupid to get to the midway point and be 1.5 games out of the playoffs and start trading off players. If it did happen though I would not blame Wallace. This would have Heisley written all over it

And yes, picking up brewer would be huge for the bench

...Wallace had a legacy of being one of the most retarded NBA GMs to ever draw breath before he came to Memphis. While most have praised him up until now for the Grizz turnaround, I've been quietly waiting for the other shoe to drop. That other shoe would be trading Rudy Gay.

Going out and overspending on an aging superstar on the back end of his career would have Heisley written all over it. Trading Rudy Gay? That would be on Wallace.

and Wallace decides to trade him and at least get something back for him. I'm with you, I hope he stays and is signed up after the season ends

wondering if your little playoff contender will be able to stay together. It must really suck to not have ownership that's committed to winning, 100 percent of the time.

First year I really remember keeping up. You can't call anyone who suffered through the Terry Teagle/Sedale Threatt years like I did a bandwagon fan.

maybe the Griz can be the first team we eliminate this postseason. Good luck catching the Hornets?Jazz?Thunder? I really don't look that far down the standings.

...the Lakers are strong. I'm not arguing the point. Just imagine how good they'd be with a decent power forward.

now only nine games behind us in the loss column.

Interesting that the Lakers swept Cleveland last year, and this year it reverses. Wonder if that's an omen?

you know it was Magic. Actually had Michael too, along with Don Mattingly and Will Clark.

He is playing out of his mind this year, but he takes plays off, his defense isn't that great and he has to have the ball in his hands to score. He's in a contract year. Players in every professional sport seem to have their best years in a contract year. He will then get a long-term over paid contract the Grizzlies would be stuck with. It was rumored they offered him an extension just under 10 million a year and he turned it down. I know he could have done that just to entertain offers at the end of the year, but if I'm the Grizzlies there is no way I would give him 10/yr.

Now, the Grizzlies don't have the best history of making solid trades, so I would worry about that. I just think you may would want to trade him now when his stock is probably at its highest point and get something good in return before you lose him for nothing.

Having said all of that, I would like them to be able to reach middle ground in the contract negotiations and keep him here but for a decent price.

...he has to play better on the defensive end. But I still maintain that it would be retarded to trade him. He's still very young and he has the ability to flat-out take over games. If he's on the trading block I guarantee you that there are 29 other teams trying to trade for him. This would be on par with the Mets trading Tom Seaver.

Rudy is having a great year and I think its due to him being in a contract year as well, he'll always be solid but I wouldn't expect this kind of production out of him year in and year out. One of my main concerns with trading him (no matter who we get) is that there will more than likely be a backlash of Shane Battier proportions.

Personally I hope they resign him, all this teams needs is a legit PG and all the pieces will fall into places.
