It is pledges from an increase in seating donations. I think on the website it shows they have only raised 3 million in "big money donors". If they keep losing, their will be some that don't pay those pledges. Plus, that the CGA thing is for pledges for the next 5 or 10 years....the rest is going to be much harder to raise.
a slew of doctors among your alumni plus a number of rich lawyers some of whom made a killing off of all the state wide tobacco lawsuits a few years back.
If you listen in on The Spirit, you will find that they envy us for our big money alumni. Seals, Bryan, Maize, Peavy, Grissom, etc... I don't think that Grissom has done anything sizeable and neither has Peavy, but the others are huge.
Football wins and losses are WAY more important to their average fan however so when it comes to raising money for athletics, they beat us as a whole.
and I'd like to know where you guys get this. I know my class has more Ole Miss grads and the year below me has more Ole Miss grads. I don't doubt that at one time perhaps there were more State grads, but I know it's not a yearly occurrence. It doesn't really matter though, the best school in the state for preparing someone for med school isn't Ole Miss or State.
I'd probably go with MC if I had to choose one. They've done a great job in structuring their curriculum to prepare students (as much as one can be prepared) for med school.
We do have more students in med school... at least that's what they are telling our students at orientation.<div>
</div><div>And Mississippi College does have a great program but our Biological Engineering program is hands down the best in the state for preparing students. If you get through thiscurriculum... the acceptance rates are reallyastronomical. Critical thinking skills play a huge part in getting accepted.</div>
I know for a fact the 2014 and 2015 classes have more students from Ole Miss. Like I said it doesn't really matter where you graduated. I know very talented, intelligent, and competent people from State, Ole Miss, MC, Tougaloo, etc.. that are in my class. I won't argue that State's bioengineering program isn't a good program for preparing you for med school. I do know that no other program matches MC in offering classes (like Gross anatomy) that prepare students for med school.
The people I knew at State well that went to medical school didn't go to UMC. For that matter, most of the people I knew well at State that went to law school didn't go to Ole Miss or MC.</p>
I wasn't only referring to that post but also previous posts that specifically mentioned UMC. Those previous posts were usually used as an argument against counting UMC students as part of UM's attendance numbers.
And for the record, I think UMC should be counted as part of UM's attendance numbers only if they are clearly differentiated, since it's a different campus. Likewise, I think MSU's Meridian campus should be counted only if clearly differentiated. Not that this has anything to do with the original post.
would have more than likely been given anyway? I'm only assuming that they didn't just recently create the seat licensing program, but maybe I'm wrong.
with good grades you can write your ticket to just about any med school in the country. A friend of mine has a daughter at Duke Medical School right now on a full ride.
So it's not money that normally would've been there. It's something a lot of places are going to start doing, but it isn't something we've done in the past. Usually it was just your Loyalty Foundation giving and your ticket price.
Now for certain tickets, it requires the capital gift agreement.
It's probably a smart to tie most of it in that way. We have 2/3 of our money slated to come from CGAs.
That brings up the question, what is the status on your fundraiser? Is it all philanthropic?
