had two post season wins against non-SEC teams, and one of those was Tulane. The SEC has got away from what made us great: physical football on both sides of the ball, hard nosed defenses and being able to run the ball when it matters. We look like the old PAC on its final slide and the Big 12. Miami looked like the SEC team tonight, just like Indiana did last week. This high octane offense and no defense stuff looks pretty, and it sells tickets, but it doesn’t win many championships.

Me too, but it is the truth. The SEC has lost sight of what made it great. It will be interesting to see which SEC team will be the first to embrace getting back to what we were. It is coming for sure.

It's like the egg bowl series. Its cyclical. Right now the B1G kinda has the momentum. Eventually it will cycle back around. But the days of the SEC dominating college football like they did before are over I believe. The conference is too much of a gauntlet now to produce three or four teams who can go through it and still be healthy enough to win a championship. It's not a coincidence that the last SEC team standing this year was probably the least tested one in conference.
Nobody cares. The SEC as you yearn for is gone. Likely forever.
Oh it won’t be the same as it was back in the last golden era. But the approach will change. This is three straight years the SEC has been shut out of the title game.

It absolutely was a gauntlet. He can't say it's not a gauntlet cause they were a bunch of four loss teams. They all beat each other up. And.A&M at least went out of conference to play and beat Notre Dame.
Top SEC teams can’t hoard players anymore by under-the-table cash and the fear of sitting out a year. It’s flattening the talent gap and hurting depth. Maybe if the product on the field starts to suck in the SEC, it will make it less likely the traditional blue bloods split off and leave the SEC or kick us out. Maybe there is a silver lining to the SEC falling on its face.

The SEC has not been a monolith in how teams play for this century, and before then as well.
Some have been pass happy, some have been run happy, some have been both depending on year or coach, some have been neither regardless of year or coach.

It was a down year for the SEC. Again. SEC got away from being a physical league & suddenly it’s losing to everybody.
Unfortunately, the clowns running our program are in the verge of breaking the cycle. Lost 5 of the last 6, and we’re not winning next year either. We seriously need to get our sh*t together.
IMO, this is mostly about Bama being down more than anything. That tide (no pun intended) lifted all SEC ships.
Possibly a contribution. But we have the craziest committed fans also. The SEC fanbase doesn't have more money than other conference fan bases. We have more money in the hands of people that were willing to pay more and particularly, more under the table.
It's not shocking that payments coming above table would hurt.
It's also not shocking that open pay to play combined with free transfers would really hurt your UGA, Bama, and LSU's. Before, if reality smacked these 5* players and they learn they will be sitting on the bench for a couple of years (or more) because they'r enot as good as they thought, they still were getting their under the table money and a promise of a legit shot at a championship in their Jr. and Sr. year, and the only way out was to sit out a year. Now they're giving up the chance to earn big money and immediate playing time if they sit on the bench for two years.

Virtually every team that has won a national championship had a strong running game. And this year will be no exception.

Defense wins championship. One dimensional running teams lose when they meet a good defensive team. Ole Miss lost because they had a balanced attack but Lacy went down on the big run. Both Miami and OM had very good defenses.

Exactly. Defense wins championships combined with an offense that can keep the other defense off balance.
I think the dynasties ruined sec brotherhood of wanting sec to win and now 12 team play off it's everyone for themselves. Screw the other teams
Just need good defense and Balance offense. We are more balanced now but we need to figure out intermediate passing game rather than go deep. I loved watching those screens last night too. Not just throw to the sideline screens. Shannon called a great game last night.
The niche offense offense idea is stupid as hell.
You don't have to be a power running team to play hard nosed physical football. It's about line play and defense.

The triple option offense idea is bad. Having an offense or defense that can utilize players that the blue bloods aren't crazy about isn't stupid to me. If you're rolling the dice on a coach that does the same thing on offense or defense that UGA, LSU, Bama, A&M and Texas are doing or rolling the dice on a coach that does something different, might as well try something different if it's truly otherwise equal, but at the end of they day the type of athletes you need to be good are mostly the same or similar, with I guess the potential exception of QB.
Here is a fun fact for everyone. Our offense was better than Alabama's this year. However, their defense was 4th best in the SEC while we were 15th. A good defense erases a lot of offensive shortcomings. That is why I am happy Arnett is back. With a better defense the Tennessee, Florida and Texas games would have been wins.
Measuring the strength of a conference over how teams fared in bowl games where players are opting out, teams are beat up from the season schedule, or factors in the game itself (conditions, weather, etc.) is stupid with a capital OO.
The playoff record speaks for itself. The SEC beat Tulane and that's IT out of conference.
