If they sit Cam for the rest of the season starting at the UGA game, do you think it would've made much of a difference in the NCAA penalty? I'm sure they still would've forfeited the previous 10 games at some point down the line, and maybe the NCAA would've limited sanctions a touch, but probably not much.
And the consequence of sitting him would've been losing to Georgia and Alabama most likely, which would've put them in a 4 way tie with Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas for first in the West, which I believe would've gone to Alabama given the way the tiebreaker is structured.
So essentially, they'd have risked not only losing a national title shot but an SEC title shot all for the possibility of maybe limiting sanctions. Not worth it.
It's not like Goldie where he wasn't a huge part of our 2003 team, and we were able to boot him as if we had no knowledge of his car situation prior to that point, which let us avoid any NCAA sanctions or forfeits. They were already "All In" to steal a term that's very fitting. They had to play out the hand.
