I thought we had a shot, then it hit me... this is an SEC game against a more storied program...

There were several things that happened last week that would be reviewed in tonight's game. There was a late pitch by Relf that should have been calleda forward lateral and a Heavens catch (where Russell fumbled the snap) that would of been reviewed if an SEC game for sure.

We're not playing for aspot in the national champioship game, guys. So let's just try to contain ourselves and let all the "What Ifs" play themselves out on the field.

watched replay last night and wasn't at all impressed w/ our running game in the 2nd half. We may have had 2nd teamers in there against their 1st team D but I still expected us to have more success. Didn't like how we relied on big plays. Auburn is going to make us march down the field w/ 10 plus play drives and I'm not sure this offense can do it. Of course, I am a lifelong Mstate fan so pessimism is just a part of life. Hope I'm wrong.

the ref was standing right there and immediately gave the signal for a lateral

including his first TD pass. Also one in the second half along the sidelines when he split two defenders, and one over the middle to a reciever that was double covered. Russel had a good game but lets be honest it wasclose to being a 3 int game as well.

I guess football really is a game of inches. it feels good to get those inches for a change, hope we keep it up.

the first one to Heavens would have been picked 9-10 by an SEC corner/nickel corner... it went right through the memphis guys hands...

that pass to the sideline was PERFECT. There was no way that was getting intercepted by anyone. Our man was the only one who had a shot at it. That's the pass that made me a believer in Russel. Put down the crack...

I agree with you that the pass where he was rolling right and split the defenders was a very good pass...he turned his shoulders, squared his body and made a very good throw. He made a couple of other good throws too.

But the 1st TD should have been picked easily, the sideline underthrow that Heavens came back to and caught is picked by most SEC CB's, and he underthrew Green down the middle of the field on 2nd down when we were backed up by our goalline in the 2nd quarter. Green had a step and a half on his defender and the ball was slightly underthrown, the defender got there when the ball did, and everybody was begging for pass interference.

The rest of his throws were to wide-*** open WR's. Competent QB's make those throws. We are just so used to having **** at QB, that it makes him look like Marino because he actually made plays most QB's make. He did well in his 1st game, but tonight is a different level and we will see Ralph for almost all of it

and i'm sure it's plays like that contribute to him being in Memphis....

Darren Williams of Clarkesdale was a 4-star recruit too wasnt he? Stars don't make you a player- making plays does

Relf looked really good. If we're going to win, we'll have to be able to run some. None of our backs did anything to impress me last Sat (but we won't miss AD), so we're going to need Relf to run the ball.

Russell was very fortunate on at least three throws. He looked poised, but he wasalso the beneficiary of good luck and terrible DBs.

When he drops back to pass.

He has little to no footwork.

One good aspect of that is that he doesn't telegraph check downs because only his head moves.

actually WAS intercepted, USC would've won 3 straight national titles (they dropped an easy INT on Texas' final drive) and the Patriots would've been the first ever 19-0 Super Bowl champ (Asante Samuel dropped an easy INT on the Giants' final drive)

he's no battleship- but Russell won't be breaking out anything in the option game anytime soon- Patdog and the rest saying he is a competent runner are just plain wrong. He looked like he was dragging a dead body when he got sacked in the 1st quarter

It doesn't matter if the passes were "almost intercepted"...fact is, they weren't. Russell has played in big games before, including the one where Meridian beat South Panola in 2008. In that game, Russell wasn't even on his "A" game- he still put the ball in places where only his receivers could catch them.

I'm all for Relf starting and getting that running game going. Nobody has stopped Relf since last year's Egg Bowl, and I don't think Auburn has the players to stop him. Then, when their defense is flat on their *** because our line put them there, send in Russell to throw over them and around them. The Mississippi State University is winning, and winning BIG tonight.

But he does resemble him when dropping back to pass.

Observe for yourself tonight, he stands flat footed and his overall foot movement is awful.

Russell played well enough to win. which says a lot against USP.

My point concerning the "almost" ints is that they were if fact close calls. Don't be surprised if ints get thrown this game. This team is suspect until proving themselves otherwise. Then again we have never had a good QB at State so maybeI am just a little skeptical.Hopeful yes, but always skeptical.

If we tie or lose the turnover battle, it gets dicey. That's not going out on a limb much, I know.

But, it should be a fairly even match-up overall. Maybe a slight edge to Auburn in talent, offset by the home field. Coaching match-up should be pretty even.
