Everybody knows Riley's finished after this season or the next, barring some kind of miracle season that simply makes it politically impossible to unseat him. (obviously something a lot better than just 10 wins) Whatever they're "tweeter"ing about Riley right now holds about as much water as when Eichorst told everyone Bo was in good shape once upon a time. The wheels are in motion already.
I believe you are right. The AD is gone, but I can't recall him ever on the field coaching. He is a big part of the puzzle, but the bottom line is Riley is coaching the players. Depending on the outcome of the next two games, it could be earlier then expected. Do I want them to lose? Hell no. Unfortunately most of us seem to know how this fiasco is going to end. I think what happened today told the story. I don't think they are messing around this time.

I have heard from OSU peeps that Gundy was interested when bozo was canned
I have heard that too, also heard he wants out of Stillwater. I think he would do great here, but .I bet he ends up at Florida.

I believe this is N last shot for a long time. Get these hires right or fall into the abyss like Minnesota did back in the days. Fail here and we are Iowa, K-State, Mizz etc.. Nobody's

Yes. It would take a while to get used to a coach with a mullet, but he's a heck of a coach.

Gundy doesn't want out of Stillwater. He's got a decent thing going. I'm not saying he'd never leave but I don't think it would be for NU. Maybe for NU of the 90s but not this year or next year or the year after that.

Absolutely. Which goes back to my post in the AD succession thread.

It's time for a "Nebraska Man" to be the AD and he will hire another "Nebraska Man" to run the football program. And if it doesn't work, we just became Iowa St
then, guess that's Trev & Frosty...

Throw a blank check at Chris Petersen. He's making 3.6/yr now. 5 mil. ought to do it. Well worth it.

Since this is a "who do you want" and not a "who can we get" thread, gotta swing for the fence the first go-round, even if you strike out. So Stoops, Gundy, Petersen, Patterson and even Dabo should be contacted. Then you move to 2nd level if necessary. We HAVE to get it right this time. Show no fear and write the check.

Stick with Riley unless you are going to get:

Chip Kelly: He is going to be a hot commodity, and there will be lots of jobs open.

Dan Mullen: Already has turned us down once

Justin Fuentes: Guy can flat out coach

I am guessing the masses will call for Frosty, but if the AD's serious about throwing some dough at top candidates, it could get interesting
There is no right answer to this, because our fan base is split. There are 2 sides to our fan base one wants Nebraska Blood and that is the only way we can get back to where we all want to be. Then there is the other side who wants the best coach available that can start winning right away.

If I could have the pick of the litter I would pick David Shaw... He is exactly what I think this team needs. The problem is he has no reason to leave where he is at, and he is not leaving. If we got him people would still complain, because he is not Nebraska Blood.

You hear names thrown out like Bob Stoops, Les Miles and Chip Kelly all proven winners and people complain and shout out excuses of why they suck. You hear a name like Scott Frost thrown out and the other side says he has proved nothing.

IMHO I think HCMR will not make it through the season even though I think he deserves more time. Until the loss to NIU some were not happy, but firing him this year was not even in the realm of possibilities. Let our coaches coach the rest of the year and see if there is any progression. If we see none then by all means start the talk, just don't expect there to be a coach that everyone is happy with

Depending on who the new AD is, Gundy would be an interesting hire I would like.

If they go the assistant route, Tee Martin will be getting a new job soon.

Curious what people think of Jason Candle and Bryan Harsin.

Seems to be a big youth movement at a lot of blue blood programs. I got these names from the attached chart of the winningest active coaches.

My first choice, mIke Riley, I want him to succeed. if not,

Mike Gundy, consistent performer, recruiting ties to
texas, his teams play fast and physical

Chris Petersen would put first but feel too unlikely

mike MacIntyre anybody that can make a winner out of San Jose St has something going on. Totally turned CU around from a dumpster fire in year 4.

I honestly don't know who I would prefer too see the next time around. I know I'd rather not see Frost, Gundy or Miles

Why are so excited to try and hurry up fire a head coach who hasn’t even finished season 3 yet? On Tweeter it’s been said Green has said Riley and staff was fine. To keep focus on season and win. Honestly, if we fire Riley before season 3 is finished, no top coach would even consider us when we fire coaches in less then 3 years to turn a corner. Two, we will lose our current recruits whom we recruited for hole that need filled bad. This will screw us for 3-5 years at minimum if not worse. Firing Riley is STUPID. Better way to view it, we need to let him fail completely before he gets fired.
It's stupid to fire a coach mid season IMO. You run the risk of the interim guy you don't want long term doing better than anyone expected, then you're kind of stuck with him. Which is how a program like LSU gets stuck with Ed Orgeron when they probably could have had Mike Gundy.

How about Kelly as head coach and Frost as OC? That would be my dream scenario, but is it realistic? Kelly doesn't seem like a guy who's going to stick around for a long time, but we can have Frost waiting in the wings to take over and continuing to learn from one of the best offensive minds in football for a few years.

It’s not realistic in the least...Frost is a HC here on out for the rest of his career...whether that’s at Nebraska or elsewhere
