When did Ole Miss stop calling us their rival? Am I the only one that thinks this is just a sad attempt to get under State fan's skin?</p>

I bet no one thought you'd come out of the coma did they? There's a lot to catch up on, so just search the websites before posting too much. That way, you won't look like a dubmass *****. Again, welcome back!

ole miss's rival will be whoever is better. i went to ole miss. for most people, the best part of the lsu-olemiss rivalry is telling people that it's a rivalry game and that mississippi state is an afterthought. if ole miss is good, that'll be true. if they're not, it probably won't.

my cousin is a huge lsu fan. he was asking me if i planned to go the egg bowl. i said i didn't know, but that most people at school were more excited about the ole miss - lsu game. he was like "why?" and i said that they considered lsu to be their biggest rival and he was like "wtf?"

that said, the initiative to start the magnolia bowl came from the lsu side. maybe they wanted a rivalry game like everyone else. i don't know. there is a enough history for it to be a rivalry game. the problems are that 1. a lot of lsu fans don't (or didn't) know it was supposed to be a rivalry game 2. they're not in the same state (that probably explains number 1)

tells you all you need to know. They probably post on LSU boards too. But as long as they care enough to post on MSU boards, you can't ever take them at face value when they say State isn't a rival. LSU may be a rival too (whether LSU is aware of that is debatable), but any Rebel that tells you State isn't a rival is just trying to get under your skin.

There's also a bit of a difference between being a college student and living in the "real world." In college you are surrounded by your fellow fans. In Starkville I hardly ever ran across a Bama fan, or a LSU fan, or an UM fan. But once you graduate and move out of a college town, you get surrounded by some group of fans. If you move to Alabama, hello Bama fans. If you move to Louisiana, hello LSU fans. If you stay in Mississippi, hello State fans. As college students they'll brag about LSU being their rival, but after a couple of decades of putting up with nothing but State fans, their ideas are likely to change.

I'd hate Bama or LSU way worse than I do now (it's already a good bit), if I had to put up with their fans on a daily basis.

I am a die hard OLE MISS fan, i often come on this board to read some of the funny/retarded **** that some of you talk about, and also read some of the Intelligent post that some of you have(although not very many i've seen) but just wanted to point out that the last 2-3 pages are riddled with "OleMiss" post...i'm not denying that state is a rival school, afterall you are entitled to have as many "rivals" as you wish, i'm just saying that Ole Miss's hatred for LSU has grown larger than its Hatred towards MSU...make sense? for me personally i will be pulling for you guys tomorrow against those corn dog smelling tards, i hate LSU with a passion...hope this explains a little more on the subject.

Also i realize that WE are RIVALS but if any of you have facebook please go take a look at how many state fans are more concerned about Ole Miss losing than about playing #7 LSU in your own backyard.

and before some of you try to crucify me i also realize that Ole Miss as well has fans that enjoy seeing State lose and probobly harp on it way more than they should...but afterall we are rivals and i personally look forward to skull dragging you guys all over the field once again this year! Goodluck until then fella's

So when did state fans care about your team getting beat in the ONLY game on that night mean they care more about it than our game later on this weekend. You are obviously of the delusional breed of UM fan that truly think like that.

Maybe YOUR hatred for LSU has grown more. But just because your hatred and maybe the hatred of 5-10 other people you know has grown more for LSU, doesn't speak for the entire OM fanbase. I don't know how old you are, but I do see this as something the younger crowd at OM subscribes to. It's hard to see until you get out of school but there's a whole world outside of the Oxford city limits. Ole Miss fandom does not solely exist in Lafayette county. You have thousands upon thousands of older fans that would never consider LSU to be a rival bigger than State. What's really happening is projection. You guys are projecting a stronger rivalry than there really is because you think it will boost your standing in the SEC and in college football. LSU is a big time program. State is not. And Ole Miss is not. But you think that if you can convince the world of college football that LSU is your real rival, then it will elevate your program up a notch. Try consistently winning year in and year out. Do that for more than a decade and the reputation of your program will start to rise.

well, i went to the swamp a few years ago and their fans were a-holes. So I now declare that I hate florida fans more than i hate UM 17 wads. I now also declare that Florida is our "real" rival. I mean afterall, the home team has won each of the last 6 or 7 games. If that's not an intense rivalry, I don't know what is.

I understand that you may want to beat LSU more than you want to beat MSU (only because your retarded little brains feel like that will somehow legitimize your program), but that doesn't make it a rivalry game. I guarantee you that LSU is no more interested in beating you than anyone else on their schedule. There may have been a short period 30-40 years ago when that wasn't true, but it's true now and will be for a long, long time. It's cute for you delusional 17 tards to feel like you're their rival...it's just not true. Until they hate your program anywhere near as much as you hate theirs, it's nothing more than jealousy and wee-man syndrome. Just learn to deal with that and your life will be easier.

What kind of facebook statuses do you expect two days before our game even kicks off? There's not a lot to say. "Ready for the game!...in two days..."

I've said it before. The idea that State fans care more about UM losing than State winning is a lie that some UM fans drag out of the trash heap whenever they lose to make themselves feel a bit better. It's like a reassuring pat on the shoulder. UM gets thrashed on national television (along with their national championship dreams), so a UM fan looks at a State board, sees posts about the UM game, and says to himself, "see! they only care about us! we're still great."

Nobody is going to be bothered with UM's loss on Saturday if we are playing a competitive game with LSU.

That pretty much sums it up right there, and any Ole Miss fan that tries to deny that is really delusional.

Five years out and certain USM people are already crowing about the MSU-USM "rivalry" being THE Mississippi rivalry. They like to think there were never tougher, more in tents games played in MS than those old MSU-USM games, and that the new ones will be the biggest in the state's history.

But State fans just see USM as a nuissance.

is that you think you're the only fanbase in the conference that is annoyed by their corndog smelling coonassedry (I just made that up too, cue the email forwarding chains). Everyone in the SEC hates LSU for the same reasons that you suddenly "hate LSU more" and you're not fooling anybody, you just look retarded.

is going to be in '09, how great Nutt is, can't wait to get to the ATL, and beat the Gators again. That's why you see 2 pages of OM commentary on this board, because we have had to hear this bs since January. You play your first real opponent away from Vaught, in front of a national audience, on the WWL with it's first team crew, and you fall right on your face. You pompous jackasses, then make excuses, the refs were horrible, our guys have been battling the flu, Snead's grandfather passed away last week, etc... What do you expect from your "non-rival" counterpart in the state, compassion, sympathy, crying? What a joke!!

It's one thing everyone in the SEC can agree on. After UM and Bama, LSU slides in nicely as my #3 most hated team of all time.

And then there is a pretty clear division before you get to #4.

...mutual hatred between MSU-UM is a lot greater than between LSU-UM.

I can't think of a single LSU fan I know that considers UM a rival. Doesn't a rivalry have to go both ways?

Kind of like MSU-Bama. We hate Bama. But we're just another team to them.

You nailed it right on the head. The LSU OM rivalry nonsense was actually started by a Reb from the OM Sprit. He was posting on every LSU board he could find in a fairly charasmatic way to see if he could get something started. He did in fact have some success, but BS is BS and everyone knows it is simply a "special needs" school trying to be friends with the cool kid.
The LSU fans I know consider UM to be a gimme pretty much year in and year out. They feel the same way about us and our fans are fine with it.

i agree, and that's what i said. it was the lsu student government that came up with the idea of the magnolia bowl. that's where a lot of their "mutual" justification comes from. there's some minority percentage of lsu fans who consider it a rivalry and there's some larger percentage of ole miss fans who consider it a rivalry. i feel like both groups are trying to build it up. ole miss fans are more ready to accept it than lsu, but there are certainly sizeable groups on both sides. if 80% plus on the lsu side start recognizing it, i'll take it seriously. until then, i'll think of it as something larger than msu-alabama but smaller than the egg bowl

"I ain't missing you"

Yeah, I'm not missing you so much that I 'm writing a song about not missing you.

We (UM people) arem't rivals with MSU. Right, just keep saying it, because the more you say it the more you might actually start believing it.

One and done.

went by the name of Vaught.
The arrival of John Vaught in Oxford in 1947 changed everything for the Rebels, who embarked on a dominance of the Bulldogs (Mississippi State adopted the nickname in the early '40s) over the next two-plus decades, as the Rebels became an SEC and national power. "(Vaught) always said, '<span style="font-weight: bold;">Never forget that Mississippi State is your rival,</span>'" Alford says. "And he wanted to beat them."
Looks like some of you have forgotten what the legendary coach had to say.
