So when do we let our QBs start taking hits?

No contact all Spring. Ok, I understand. We only have 2 guys on the roster so we don't want to get one hurt in practice. But, how far does this go? You can't let them not get hit until the first game. Do you risk it for all of Fall practice? How much is enough, how much is too much? </p>

there is no reason for our quarterbacks to take hits before the first game. The risk is simply to great. Now that doesn't mean that you don't throw tacking dummies at them and practice tuck drills and such. The risk of injury far outweighs the benefit of a quarterback getting used to taking a hit. He'll get enough of that in the SEC. No reason the reason to risk Autry blindsiding Russell's knee.

You never EVER want to let your QB take hits in practice that can injure him for a game. On the same side, it is a disadvantage because a QB never plays an all-out rush the same as a "two-hand touch" rush. So while I (and I know the coaches do) understand your point, I wouldn't want to expose either QB to hits in practice that can injure him.

Last year and the year before when we didn't have a clear starter they took hits, but after this past season when we got spread thin I think Mullen changed his mind. Hell, Russell isn't 100% right now because he got nailed during bowl practice.

but at some point in the fall, you'd have to think they'll let them go full speed. I would hate to think the first game is the first hit either will take, especially Dak. that's a huge adjustment. As usual, we have to be 100% full speed by week 2 if we're going to make a run at a decent season. No way that happens without at least a good6-10 full speed, full contact (for everyone) practices.

but I also think that it would be a little foolhardy to just let the D lay the wood to Tyler and Dak in the spring.

But this does raise an interesting point about Russell. I am terrified that he can't take the hits the SEC will demand of him.

My concern is that it will carry through the Fall. Was looking for thoughts, opinions, or inside info on Fall plans.
