I'm starting to think about who I can draft and get a good deal on. Someone a bit undervalued. I'm eyeing Kirk Cousins at QB. His total fantasy points stayed about the same from 2015 to 2016 but it came in the form of five less TDs in 2016 but 800 more yards passing. (The league I'm in gives 6 points for a passing TD, unlike some others that give 4 points.) And when you look at the Washington kickers stats you see he attempted five or so more FGs from inside 30 yards (12 yard line of scrimmage) in 2016 than 2015. So Washington did worse in the redzone in 2016 and in fact if you look up the stats they went from about 9th in 2015 to 30th in 2016.
So I'm expecting a bounce back in the redzone performance. But I have no reason to believe those 800 passing yards will go away. They're a pass heavy team and Cousins is proving he can do it successfully. They lost Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon but they got Terrelle Pryor and also 2nd year player (and 1st round draft pick) Josh Dochson will probably be healthy for 2017, unlike 2016. And of course they still have Jamison Crowder annd Jordan Reed catching passes.
They drafted a RB but not highly and the RB they had was pretty mediocre so I think drafting the RB was just an attempt to shore up their running game rather than a shift in approach towards running the ball more.
So I'm expecting maybe 4-6 finish from Cousins among QBs but he'll probably be the 7th to 10th off the board. I see some value in him.
As an aside, the Redskins drafted RG3 #2 overall and then 3-4 rounds later in the same draft they took Cousins and as of now at least RG3 isn't even signed. He may be out of the NFL for good. Just goes to show that you never know.
