So with Austin now committed, who else do we need to sign?

Hey there dawgs, I'm new but I've been lurking a while. As I'm sure y'all know Scott Austin committed to MSU today, which nearly takes care of receivers this year. We might get Rumph, but with (De'vante) Scott being a receiver/corner I think we've got that taken care of. Flowers and Mix make up our O-Lineman, Jones our sole D-Lineman(end), Cord has the QB situation and Kailo's our runningback, then there's Myles at Corner. Shumpert could be our second RB, we need some safeties, and while I have my hopes up for Antonio Conner, after CJ and Ward I'm not holding my breath. Thomas'll hopefully give another nice OLineman, but I don't think there are any big DT's like their were last year instate. I can't think of any LB's or TE's instate either. I'm guessing we're gonna try to poach into Lousiana, as that's where we picked up Day, Dak, and Robinson, and maybe into Tennessee, but I can't picture us getting anybody out of Alabama.

Cox - 4* JUCO DB
Smith - 4* JUCO DE

Leonard - 4* S

Morris - 4* OT

Riley - 3* LB
Jones - 3* LB

Billings - 3* DT
Crayton - 3* DT

I could easily see us getting 10+ different 4* players this season on at least one of the sites. Currently, based on average star ratings, we are #20 on 247 and #20 on Rivals... and I look for our average star rating to actually improve with the future commits...

but what is the connection between Connor, CJ, and Ward?

That we thought we had an excellent shot at, only to miss on them late in the game. ALOT of signs say we sit very well on Conner right now, but our history says to be careful getting those hopes up.

Of the 3, Conner appears least likely of the 3 for us given history... but those in the know feel like we actually have a pretty good chance...

not directly tied to Ole Miss.

All of our guys I've talked to anyway are at the very least cautiously optimistic. Bama is the only one I feel is above us at this point. OM fans will flip out on this line, but the fact is, Freeze has made few friends in Batesville thusfar, and allegedly Antonio still feels somewhat like his brother has gotten a raw deal from them..

It should be obvious we have a better shot at him than previous SP kids like Brassell, because he's actually been to campus 5 or so times now...

That is SOME reason to hope at least. Thanks

He came to several basketball games too. Once with Deon Mix. There is a chance. I'd give us a 25% chance, OM 25%, and Bama 50%. It's going to go down to the wire, and as Yancy would say, there will be some "delta recruiting" going on.<div>
</div><div>I hope he realizes that if he goes to Bama, he will have to ride the pine for about 3 years. They got the #1 safety recruit in the country in 2011 and 2012. Makes me sick thinking about it.</div>

Thank you for that wonderful list Engie. I'm really hopeful we get Conner, and I think Bama has the biggest edge now, but I think with a good season we'll pull ahead as long as that "delta recruiting" doesn't go down. I checked all the names, Cox and Smith are both from Scooba where Denico played, so I think that'll help us in the long run. Leonard looks stout, and if we could get him Cox and Conner that would bring some tremendous safety depth with Arrington and Whitley(if he stays) and some of our other up coming safeties. Morris has some great size that will blossom out once he hits Balis, and we look like his best offer that's close to home. Riley looks like ball hawk, but needs some size. Crayton looks like a monster and I'm wondering why he's not a 4* prospect. Defensive line is probably the one position we're the deepest, but I would love him in Maroon. I have a couple questions however, what makes you think we're in the race for Billings and Jones? I'm not sure we can pull Billings out of Big XII country, unless he really wants to get outta town. Jones on the other hand looks like a Bama lock with two older brothers(including All-American Barrett Jones) on the team.

EDIT: So, assuming that we get Thomas, Shumpert, and Jordan from instate, and then Cox and Smith from JUCO, Leonard, one of Riley/Jones and one of Billings/Crayton we end up with

1 QB(Cord)
2 RB(Kailo, Shumpert)
1 ATH(Scott)
4 WR(Hammond, Woods, Wells, Austin)
3 OT(Mix, Flowers, Thomas)
2 S(Leonard, Cox)
2 CB(Jordan, Myles)
2 DE(Smith, Jones)
1 DT(Crayton/Billings)
1 LB(Riley/Jones)

19 slots, plus the possible additions of Conner, Rumph, Morris, Riley/Jones, Crayton/Billings, giving us a theoretical total of 24 recruits. I think I'd be perfectly fine with that.

Cox is going to play corner. With us losing our top 3 CBs and returning all of our safeties, there's no way he won't start at CB from day one.

Get that list down to 20. We are playing the numbers game this year with our redshirting program. Right now everyone thinks we only have the numbers for only 20 spots open.

we were in almost the same position and we ended up signing 25. When it is all 'said & done,' think we will sign ~25 again.

There is some 'attrition' every year. Maiden left last year, Redmond is rumored to be leaving; we still have three that have not qualified. There will be some that transfer for playing time & then there are injuries.

MSU is also now at the point where someone like Cox leaves early.

Not everyone. After Redmond's departure, comments on 24/7 are that there may be as many as 22.
