3) Since Mullen is an offensive guy, Diaz will have a lot of freedom in the scheme he runs, as long as it doesn't suck.

if they both find a way to win in Starkville that MSU would be a great stepping stone. Hell he could even tell Diaz that a couple of good seasons may land him the HC job at MSU.

Of course this wouldn't be the normal route to go.

He definitely can't sell the town as compared to where Diaz is. Going with the SEC is likely his best bet...that and introducing him to Greg Byrne. Byrne's reputation as being good should help a lot.

But I meant what does Mullen throw out there to draw any DC.

/Just wondering what the collective thought on that was

Mullen uses the "State is about to turn the corner" "be a part of it" "missing piece" bit on a prospective DC.

and again, turning the corner in starkville would likely lead to bigger opportunities.</p>

this might sound bad but a "stepping stone" is alot better than "graveyard for coaches." that and graveyard is not a very good pitch anyway. Here's to looking up

I doubt he's having to do much selling, Diaz is probably the one having to do the selling. He is currently an assistant at Middle TN St. Think about it, going to MSU is a step up in the world for him, not to mention salary. MSU doesn't have to sell itself to him. The kind of thinking shown in this thread is exactly what's wrong with about 90% of the MSU fanbase.

are you referring to? I just posed the question to see what the pack thought the positives of being the DC at State would be. Forget MTSU... Forget the Sun Belt. Hell, PetersEn turned down the chance to coach in the SEC to stay at Boise St. I'm not sure what the point of your post is...

Diaz just happens to be the person that is being tossed around the most right now.

Get off of your high horse. It's not like MSU has had a lot of winning records in the last decade. We still have to sell the program to a certain extent regardless of who the candidate may be.

You guys act like we're a CUSA team or something...Miss St. is a solid job at the moment in the nation's most prestigious conference. What is there to sell?

I know it sounds crazy - I really haven't proven anything yet - but neither has Lane Kiffin and look what happened to him. Sit tight and if the stars align, you'll only have to move a couple of hours to the north and east.

You will have access to an improved talent pool (level) in order to fully maximize the scheme you want to run here. You will be able to pull plenty of speedy defensive players (esp. D-linemen) from the JUCO ranks and the MS high schools. Prospects coming out of both areas will be anxious to play in your high tempo, aggressive style of defense. Oh, and we will provide the offensive support for you so that your defense stays rested and in position to win games.

although torbush's situation is pretty fuzzy on what actually transpired. If you can run a decent defense at MSU, then the rest of the country thinks you are working miracles.....no respect. Not too mention he will be working with a pretty respectable defense that has almost everyone coming back.

Joe Lee's prime was great. Not trying to be debbie downer, but in hindsight, I'm not so sure it wasn't more attributable to the freak players we had instead of great coaching. I have a hard time believing that Joe Lee's demise was simply being "figured out" by opposing coaches. I have no idea about actual numbers but just thinking off-hand, about half of those defensive players played in the NFL (or at least were given an opportunity). Not too mention some of the best players didn't project to the NFL i.e. Ashley Cooper.

some have thought that joe lees demise was not having the caliber players to run his schemes and not being able to adapt. that seems foolish considering we are still pumping out NFL caliber players though
