Since 1991, the last time we beat LSU in Baton Rogue, we have lost 9 straight games down there by a combined score of 346-145. Of the 145 points we have scored in the last 9 meetings in Baton Rogue, nearly 27% of those points (38)were scored in the 2000 overtime loss. In those 9 games, we have been held to 17 points or less 5 times.

We are about to get owned (again).

If our line can not give QB's time, we will not be able to expose their DB's. I think their secondary is their weaker part of defense. Their front D-line is just dominating, as usual. Our o-line made great strides last year and it is time for them to step it up again. They just did not move AUB line on runs or keep pressure off of QB's while passing. If that continues, will be a long night offensively.

last trip (and probably should have scored at least one more TD). I don't think LSU is as good on either side of the ball as they used to be (Miles, Chavis,& Crowton? aren't the best set of coaches in the league by a long shot). I am worried about a beatdown though without a proven back like AD. I think if we can run a little, protect the QB (and catch the damn ball), and don't give them many big plays (like a punt return for a TD) that we'll stay in the game. Lots of if's I know.

We'll be able to run a little bit on LSU. Not a lot, but we will be able to. They lost over 100 lbs on their front 7 from last year and we were able to run on them then.

Damn, it's cold without the wool

I agree they are not good coaches, especially at developing players. It is just amazing how they keep getting top 5 recruiting classes. You would thing the recruits would realize the coaches (Miles in particular) are bozos...

but I don't put much stock in them on a year over year basis. Bama has historically owned OM like LSU has owned MSU for one reason -- they have had better players (and at times coaches). When their players have been similar in quality to ours, things tend to even out. Certainly venue plays a big role, as it does with any game. You've apparently got a decent defense and you're facing a team which is challenged on offense. I think it will be a good game into the late 3rd or early 4th quarter (although not very entertaining). Who knows, maybe MSU plays above itself and wins.

doesn't have anything more to do with this year than what Bellard did against them (and he owned them). I don't think we're going to win there this year, but it won't be because Jackie always fell apart against them or because Crxxm was a moron like the last 10 times we went down there were.

Among the most useless of sports stats is how many times one team beat another in the past, where, or by how many points. ALL that matters is this year's matchup.

I'm not doubting you, but I heard that LSU had the better defensive line of the two.<div>
</div><div>Nevertheless my wool is shedding at a rapid pace, and I am beginning to think this game is a bit too much for our young team. IF (huge if coming from a guy who thinks we will lose) we can win Saturday, I will feel much better about our chances the rest of the year.</div>

Plus, if you want to start looking at the stats, we have a .281 winning percentage in Baton Rouge. Compare that to our SEC West away winning percentage (not including LSU) of .212 and our SEC away winning percentage (not including LSU) of .260. The "Death Valley" factor is over-hyped -- relative to us at any rate. Saturday is going to be just as tough as any other talented SEC team we play on the road.

Newsflash to all you statisticians: we've gotten our asses kicked everywhere over the years. That has nothing to do with what happens Saturday. If we lose it will be because we were beaten by a talented team in a place that is hard to win (read "on the road", not "because BR is a special place").

Yea, you know how good LSU's pass defense is? 85th out of 120 in the country. This is against a UNC team without their two best rb's and 1st round WR Little plus Vanderbilt who is 101st in the country passing the football. Peterson may be the best college football player in the country, but he can only cover one man and the rest of their secondary is atrocious. LSU leads the country in sacks so it's hard to say their front seven isn't very good. Their secondary is by far their weakest link defensively.

but until proven otherwise, our O can't scoreon an SEC defense. I'm guessing the Auburn game was just a poor showing, but the playcalling makes me think Mullen doesn't have confidence in our ability to run, which would mean we will suck this year. I'm hoping he was just having trouble accepting that we don't have the talent to exploit a secondarygiving up the first 10 yards on the outside, that he has accepted it afterwatching tape, and that we will justify Cecil's concern about a rented mule by running Relf and Co. until his body just can't take it anymore.

And that number includes their I-AA game. So 4.4 yards per pass play against an SEC team isn't that unusual for them. It's actually about what they usually do. Somebody posted that Vandy has only scored 5 offensive touchdowns in their last 10 SEC games combined. So shutting them down doesn't necessarily mean you have a good defense.</p>

You simply made a remark that their (LSU) secondary wasn't their weakness defensively. LSU is only number 4 in the country against the run and leads the country in sacks..Vanderbilt is in the bottom 15 in the country passing the football. Their secondary, minus Peterson, is very below average. Just a fact.

The only time Vandy got inside the 10, we held them out of the end zone, and it really wasn't that difficult. You could see it coming.

LSU had neither better overall talent than MSU or better coaching. Look at who else beat LSU numerous times in the 1990s (Ole Miss) and you'll see my point. There's no explanation for that string of defeats from 1992 to 1998. Some of those years LSU was clearly a better team (1995, 1996) but many of those years MSU finished ahead of LSU in the SECW (1992, 1994, 1998) and some years we were even (1993, 1997). From 2001 to 2008 LSU had great talent and good coaching and MSU was horrible. LSU has a pretty good record against everyone in that stretch. Additionally, MSU beat LSU 4 times in the 1970s (I think) and we beat them 5 times in a row from 1980 to 1984 (which did includes some big upsets). It's absolutely inexplicable to me how poorly we played with some good teams against LSU's very bad teams. <div></div>
