I don't know if TV did it justice, but it was as loud as any sporting event I've been to in awhile. Plus, it was sheeting rain and no one flinched - just kept on singing and cheering. Yes, I know it's Seattle and they're used to rain but that was still impressive. If you're ever in Seattle, make sure to catch a game. It's worth it.

likely?

that's like saying "why anyone attend a sporting event likely to last 3+ hours and 1-0 completely baffles me" when talking about baseball

With baseball, most fans are just as much there to drink and hang out with friends as to watch their admittedly slow game. Soccer fans seem pretty hardcore about watching the game. (and yes, likely to end in a super super low score, were its OK to end in a tie.)

Hump4Hoops - I'm not going to engage in some "soccer is stupid" argument but I'll tell you, I find myself falling asleep at baseball games where I have to watch some fat *** DH with bad knees take 15 minutes for a single at bat while he scratches his nuts and adjusts his batting gloves after every pitch.

Different strokes, different folks. All I know is that soccer game last night - and all the Seattle games I've seen - are closer to an SEC football atmosphere than any other pro sport. No matter the score.

doing nothing, with 15 minutes of actual action and an average of5 touchdowns? That'sanaverage of1 TD every 40 minutes. Soccer has 90 minutes of action in 2 hours and has an average of 3 goals, or one every 40 minutes.

Baseball is still the king summer sport because of the braves, cardinals, etc but think if they had MLS teams in Birmingham, New Orleans, and Nashville.... Those would be crazy games and would make great rivalries.

well just because a soccer match ends 1-0 doesn't mean there aren't 10 or 12 breathtaking moments when a ball is crossed into box with a forward flying in for a header

any football games I have been to. Not all soccer games are like that, but Portland is close to an EPL game as the states will get. I have been to a few Man U games and Barcelona once and it rivals it for atmosphere (minus 50,000 - 70,000 more fans).
