A big positive that we can take away from the game is that some players that we needed to step up did. Tanner Lee showed that he can play. We had a good idea about that but needed to see it.
But Spielman and Bryant should make people happy. It was their first time as huskers where we would lean on them for major production and they produced. That is a huge plus when trying to plug new players into leadership roles for the first time. We absolutely need J.D. and Tre to give us yards this year and they started off good.
A big surprise to me was a lack of carries for Ozigbo. Was he hurt and I am just unaware? When I saw him run as a freshman I thought he had all the makings of a decent back, but to not even play??? Can someone update me on that?
It was no surprise that the D looked the way it did. The transition to the 3-4 was always going to be brutal against teams like Ark St and Oregon. The schedule and timing of the change did not help us in that regard. Add the loss of our best CB and you have a recipe for getting lit up as the new guy adjusts. Oregon is not going to be a leap forward for anybody on the D. It is the games after Oregon that should be where we get our indication of how things will play out in terms of development. If we can't stop N Ill, Rutgers and Illinois then we might need to buckle up for some *** kickings the rest of the year. I only see the Oregon game playing out 2 ways. A high scoring NU loss where we can't match their offense or a high scoring NU win where we pull it out a lot like last years game. We will not shut down their offense. (Most teams wouldn't) Gonna need some magic next week.
Something strange to me is that Diaco reaction by not speaking to the press and MR feeling the need to give him the confidence quotes after the first game. This is not a great start in terms of tone and leads me to believe that the coaches know we have major problems on D. Let's remember this is how it started and see if it ends up mattering or being nothing.
