From the book of SEC, Chapter 1 verse 1


· In the beginning was the word and the word was football.

· And God created the heavens and the earth so that there would be a place to play football, and he separated the waters with the dry land and pay parking with tailgating space. Created he tents both Maroon and Blue and Crimson and Purple, created he them. And Ice chests, chicken tenders, corndogs, cashews, M&Ms and Honda generators; created he them. 

· And he created majors of liberal arts, engineering and agriculture to offer meaning to the non-player and graduate degrees of sports and parks and recreation management so that there would be sheepskin scrolls for the players of The Game. 

· And he placed stadiums both large and small across the land so that there would be a place to sit during The Game and when night came he hung lights on the stadiums and said “not bad” for a busy Tuesday.

· Then he created suits of crimsons, purples and golds, maroons and whites, blues and reds, oranges and other combinations of the spectrum and although it wasn’t his very best work, it was more than adequate to use as building blocks for a conference. And he gave t-shirts in these colors for the fans.

· Knowing that mascots were desirable, he created Tigers and Pachyderms, Bulldawgs, Fighting Okras, Horney-toads, buzzards and Eagles along with Cotton Plantation Colonels and bears. And he said, “It will have to do”.

· And he created man, both great and small he created man for offense and defense. Runners, kickers, chunkers, blockers, tacklers and catchers, leaders of cheer and tooters of horn, created he all of them and it was good.

· And he created rules and striped shirt men with flags and down markers and for whatever they were worth, it was OK.

· And he created The Bear. And he created The Hat. And he created The Kang. He created Old Ball and Dan The Man, losers and winners created he them.

· And God created the player, both great and small. And they were fruitful and multiplied. And he gave to them talents as pleased him. And some of them showed brightly as the sun. And from among these men were separated the strings of first and the strings of second while others stood their place on the sidelines or scout team.

· And some were valued above all others. And both coach and fan desired them. And the scribes of sport recorded their names and their numbers were shouted from the very bleachers, press and patron’s Skybox. And smokers of cigar desired them above all of the others.

· And during the reign of Meyer and Mullen a mighty runner of the ball came forth and yet he stood in the shadow of another mighty one known throughout the land as Teabow. And the name of the second string mighty warrior was Cameron and his father was a priest and his legs were strong and his arm was sure, but the character given by his father was in question.

· And he left the swamp amid doubts of character and he traveled to the land of Tex where he sojourned for a time before returning to the Holy Land of Football and the sacred southern fields of the sport. And all who coached and cheered their clans there wanted him badly, and the character of his father failed him and he was offered out for a quantity of silver, as a mule to the field of play. 

· And Good Coach Mullen learned of his great cost and said “Nay! Nay! Report him to the NCAA!” And others acquired the mule and they prospered greatly working the mule and then their house came down upon them.
