I'm not sure who it is, but someone definitely needs to answer for why Tyler received a concussion on the first drive against OSU and was allowed to continue playing. I don't know if it's Dan, Les, the head Trainer, or who, but somebody obviously made an idiotic call for him to keep playing and it could have cost Tyler his life. I say this because that second hit he took that actually took him out of the game was not brutal at all; Tyler looked fine on the plays he did before the slide hit...2 plays later he threw a pass that Henig would've thought was bad; and lastly, he's basically been out of commission for 2+ weeks. Andre Johnson took a worse hit last week against the Titans than the second hit Tyler took, and he played this week.

I agree IF it is true that he got a concussion early, and IF the coaches knew...which if Tyler didn't say anything, I don't know how they could have known. It didn't look like a fierce hit, but he definitely sucked after that hit so it could have been.

do you have any way of knowing that he received it on the first hit? I haven't looked for info on it, but has that been said?

Just because a hit looked "worse" doesn't mean it had more of a concussive effect.

Didn't he jump up after that first hit like it was no big deal?

I guess if you see some signs... like him stumbling or looking a little woozy... you'd obvioulsy check him out. But the way I remember it he didn't act differently just based on watching TV. We don't pull a player every time his helmet contacts another helmet and run a concussion test. Plus, we have the advantage of watching it multiple times from multiple angles on TV. Coaches on the sideline see it once in real time, and maybe one replay on a big screen if they have time to watch that.

His play on the field between the first hit and second hit would certainly seem to indicate something wasn't right with him.

Not picking on your post

His play on the field between the first hit and second hit would certainly seem to indicate something wasn't right with him.

But I don't buy that. Was he concussed in the Egg Bowl or Gator Bowl last year? Accuracy was way off and decisions were bad. Has he been concussed since Alabama last year for that matter?

My main point is I don't think there was an mishandling here. The op is black helicopter stuff. Tyler took a headshot in the latter hit. He's had a concussion before so they are being very careful. His handling and Bohana'a have been the same. Nothing to see here.

Is this based solely on your application of the concussion protocol through the television, or has there been some sort of report that Russell suffered a concussion at that time?

I'll steal an argument from the NFL.

How can you prove anyone knew that he got a concussion earlier on? 99% of NFL players purposely alter their pre-season concussion tests so that when they get concussed their field tests won't show anything. If a player says he's fine, who's to say he isn't? THERE'S the problem with the whole concussions in football thing. Players at all levels feel the need not to come out until they're made to come out.

Its not only whether anyone knew of an earlier concussion, did he even have an earlier concussion? What is the evidence of this? Did Tyler or someone say he did?

Exactly. But what I'm saying is you'll never know. Doug Flutie used to tell Drew Brees all the time "Never let your backup see the field"... TR is fine now and he's riding the pine. We got a taste of what we've been asking for since last October and we don't want to go back to what we had. There's no evidence he got a concussion on the previous play, but if he did only TR would have known so and I BET he didn't tell a soul. I'm all for cleaning up concussion treatments in football but it's always going to be an issue and this argument that we're having right now will always be an argument.

If Tyler starts, someone with decent editing skills needs to do a "Hitler's Bunker" overdub, where Hitler is talking about how with Dak hitting his stride, the Dawgs can still make a bowl. The officers looks around, and someone says: ""Mein Fuhrer... Dak didn't start..." Hitler's hand shakes as he removes his glasses:

"All of you who said we should be negotiating with Hudspeth leave the room..."

I'm not seeing the argument (not entirely directed at OP but to the thread) of TR's play being caused by the first hit. Did he have a concussion the entire second half of the season last year? Did he hit his head getting off of the bus for the Gator bowl?
