This is the first time ANY player on this team has been playing meaningful baseball at this point of the season. The pressure of a division & SECT race is a whole new experience. These guys have just been playing to ruin someone else's season at this point the last few years. Every situation we've faced the last month was new to them. Overall, I thought they handled it pretty well. We went 10-3 the last month, when we needed it the worst. And we got contributions from everyone, even the guys that have routinely sucked like Devin Jones. The success of the last month will only breed confidence for the future, especially with the freshmen. We just need a couple of legit SEC starting pitchers. If Butch can get the snakes out of Stratton's head, we'd be that much closer.

I've said all along we needed to meet 1 of 2 goals this season for me to say we've had significant improvement: 1) Make the SECT or 2) Make a regional. We've now accomplished BOTH goals. I really hate to quote Crxxms, but "if you can't see the improvement, you're blind." It's just that simple.

which is pretty incredible when you think about our starting pitching situation. We had to bring in a middle relief guy to take over the Friday night starter role. Then our second starter is still not full 100% and is fairly limited on how far he can go and our 3rd starter (who used to be our Friday night guy) is in a total funk at this point. Its great that we have done what we have especially in a year that we were a last place pick in the West but right now I'm concerned that our starting rotation doesn't exactly set us up to accomplish great things in the upcoming tournaments.

against two teams who did not make even the SEC tournament.

Quite frankly, that is not very good at all IMO. 2-2 wouldnt have been that good, and we went 1-3.

I can turn it around on you just as easily. You are part of the problem. Would it have been nice to sweep Mississippi? Absolutely. But we took 2 of 3 at their place. Regardless of record, LSU is still LSU. They still had a mathematical chance to win the SECW coming into the weekend. And they had better than a mathematical chance to make the SECT. So it's not like they were a hopeless team playing the string out the way UT & UK are. Give them some credit for busting their *** to try to get themselves into the tourney. They have probably solidified their chances of making the NCAAT, depending on what Auburn & Jawja do in the SECT. We took one and got into the SECT, so it was a successful weekend. Winning out wasn't going to happen. Too much can happen in baseball. And no one is going to have a perfect performance. It just doesn't happen in this sport. There are too many variables and moving parts. Considering we were the unanimous coaches selection to finish 6th in the West, it's been a damn good season. I'd be willing to bet if I'd asked you at the beginning of the season would you be happy with a 2nd place SECW finish & a spot in the SECT, you'd have said yes in a heartbeat. Now you're bitching because we weren't perfect.

My advice: take the rest of baseball season off from posting, then quit.

who are most likely finished for the season. I am sorry if I am not very excited over that. Especially today, against an LSU team who lost a heartbreaker last night, and really didnt have anything to play for. We did, and came out and pissed it away. How can you excuse that? How were we not prepared to play, knowing full damn well what was at stake?

So here we are, having to play Florida Wednesday instead of Bama or Arkansas. I am sure you happy. At least we backed in to the tournament.

We **** the bed and everyone knows it. This LSU team we played this weekend has been on a roll as of late despite the weak competition and it continued this weekend. We were lucky to even win one. The fact that you're complaining about going .500 against those two teams is crazy. You would have never expected that a month or so ago.

Seriously man take a grip on life, you are a Mississippi State fan. We just secured a spot in Hoover for the first time in 4 years. I agree that it sucks we lost the series, but to ***** about the improvement we made in general is selfish and embarrassing. Run your *** home and join rugbdawg for a cider or two and then bring some logical discussion to the board with rugbdawg for a change..

It is your demand for 100% success and apparently your life. I am willing to bet you are not a parent...otherwise this whole board feels sorry for your children. You'd be a ****** parent with your reaction to less than perfect</p>

but to be quite blunt LSU is a better team than us right now and likely better than a lot of folks and I don't care what their record is. They are loaded with talent, much more than we have, but most of it is young and it took them a while to get going. To play them in Starkville and to only have a lead on them after 1 of the 27 innings played is not very good admittedly. I'm just glad that one inning happened to be the 9th inning of one of the 3 games.

someone told me we would finish a game shy of winning the west, I would have happily taken it. Now, I hate losing to LSU in baseball, hate it, but we did knock those corndogs out of Hoover Saturday (awesome game, btw) and won the series with the bears. I think we left a couple of wins on the table - Ark and Ala, but overall considering our pitching situation and total lack of any power hitters we did well and are still playing.

those teams play so many games, that losing a "heartbreaker" just doesn't impact a team as much as say a football team. Before we beat LSU, we lost 17-1 or whatever- that should have been heartbreaking to us, but we came back and won the next game.

That's actually the good thing about baseball- you lose one day, and you still have the next day and it's 0-0 again.

So, it really shouldn't shock anyone when we come back from a bad loss, or a team beats us after we have beaten them.
